VI confirms 3rd case of COVID-19
In a live update on the Government of the Virgin Islands Facebook page moments ago, Monday, March 30, 2020, Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Carvin Malone (AL) said the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has returned one positive result from recent tests.
"In addition to the 9 cases reported prior, an additional 16 persons were tested. It has been confirmed that the results of the 25 cases submitted to CARPHA on Saturday has been returned.
“Today, of that 25 persons, we have confirmed another positive case, one more, in the British Virgin Islands, bringing our total number of confirmed imported cases to 3.
The VI had confirmed its first two cases of the virus on March 25, 2020. Both cases were imported.

The third patient, according to Hon Malone, is a 26 year old male with travel history to a country where there is community spread.
“He is currently in quarantine and only had mild symptoms. His contacts are also quarantined and are asymptomatic, which means they have no symptoms.”
Hon Malone also said there are now 143 persons under self-quarantine protocol at their homes.
He said testing, containment strategies and followups continue to be carried out in accordance with World Health Organisation (WHO) guidance, taking into consideration the local context and that Government continues to work in a proactive manner to protect, contain and manage the spread of COVID-19 in the Territory.
Additionally, Hon Malone urged persons to respect the curfew in place and to practice good hygiene.
As of today, March 30, 2020, the WHO has reported that 693,224 persons across 202 countries have been infected with the virus and 33,106 persons have died.

We do not have the means to test locally so we do not know until someone becomes ill and then is tested and we wait for 3 weeks for the results..The 3 that we know of, had reason to be tested...They arrived from a location of contamination. Without a doubt there are others in the Vi with the virus. This is why the social distancing and quarantine.
