ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has revealed that a feasibility study for an additional cruise pier is being undertaken with plans of making it a reality.

The Premier informed during a press conference on January 28, 2022, said additional options are being sought by the Virgin Islands' cruise partners.

“As you know the Virgin Islands is one of the premier tourist destinations in this part of the world and we do have high interest from the cruise industry as well as the yachting industry,” he stated.

He added: “We have a product that is in demand by the mega yacht industry as well. We have seen the interest by the mega yachting sectors so we know that the confidence is there and we are also aware that there is an interest and a market if we can accommodate additional and larger cruise vessels.”

Study underway

The territory’s leader then disclosed that a feasibility study is being done.

“You would have recalled that we have been investigating the possibilities and potential for adding additional berthing options and one such option that has been put forward is for an additional cruise pier that can accommodate the larger vessels and mega yachts when they come.”

According to Honourable Fahie, the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) is in the process of conducting a feasibility study to determine what will be the best way to capture those segments of the marine sector.

"Once the BVIPA completes its study we will be one step closer to realising our goal which is to capture the additional economic opportunities for our marine industries and create the avenues for our taxi drivers, tour operators, restaurants, shops, craft vendors and all the other businesses and people in our economy to benefit.”

The Premier also said the VI can expect a total of 299 cruise calls with 193 at the cruise pier for the 2021/2022 season, with a projected increase the following season.

The Hon. Premier just can';t stop shooting himself in the foot. While I have soooo many reasons I will NOT be voting for him or his party in the next election, this one thing would be a singular reason to vote to keep the Premier from repeating in office.
The Premier is using St. Thomas as his tourism model... Critical Error. PLEASE STOP!

Unless YOU, Minister of Tourism Andrew Fahie and your respective authorities (NPTVI & Min. of NRL) don’t present the community of Virgin Gorda with an updated comprehensive sustainable management plan for The Baths National Park, I warn you to keep that pier development study and initiative away from Virgin Gorda! I warn you! Your Poli.bed will definitely be ploughed!

There is an "on the down low" marina going in out by the Dungeon… maybe that’s a big test to the 1st District Cruise Pier!

We don't want cruise ship - we don't make money. Local villa and hotel - people spend money on restaurant, car rental, day trips etc etc Cruise ship don't spend money - just fill the beach up and over crowd the island. lets not look like st Thomas, Bvi special

Great. Let's continue to ignore thd yachting industry until it is time to hand out fines and concentrate on an industry that hires nobody.

This is right up there with the 3rd district rep wanting to make Sea Cow Bay the "English St. Barts". They just trying to catch up with the last government, developing opportunities for cost over-runs and lots of "pork"; the National Dish should be "fungi and pork".

You all need to concentrate on getting a modern and decent public library back in town and all the government offices in one location instead of spending so much money on rent for government offices all over the place.

About putting a public library, a mental institution, a proper garbage disposal system, better roads, proper sewer system and better water systems in place which is more important than some damn cruise ships.

    Mr Premiere
No mega yacht want to stay in the BVI under the current custom laws.
Change that stupid law that you all ignored for the last 15 years but now want to enforce.
    Killed the industry overnight!

They need to fix the street lights from Pockwood Pond by Electricty to Fort Recovery. It's time to light up the streets. It is too dark in those areas.

Please name the mega yachts that want to be docked near cruise ships? Clue: There aren't any. Visit Dade and Broward counties in south Florida during the boat show this week and you will see that mega yachts dock as far away from cruise ships as possible!

It would not be an Feasible idea to install an other Cruise Pier in an already Congested Road HARBOUR..

WHEN IN FACT THERE ARE QUITE AN NUMBER OF OTHER RELEVANT HARBOURS

AND A CRUISE PIER DOES Not. ...!!!! NECESSARILY NEED
TO BE INSIDE AN HARBOUR... BTW AND IRL.....
