ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Community leader and Bishop of the New Life Baptist Church in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola, Mr John I. Cline has again lambasted the ongoing Virgin Islands Commission of Inquiry, as one that has set out to achieve ‘Global Britain’ by the United Kingdom (UK) in the VI.

Bishop Cline made the comments during the Tuesday, June 22, 2021, edition of the My BVI Show alongside co-host Angelle A. Cameron, where he also pointed out that even within the Global Britain proposal, there is no focus on the advancement of OTs' constitution and giving greater autonomy.

Global Britain & OTs

According to the UK government website, Global Britain is an integrated review of security, defense, development and foreign policy, as part of the UK's vision for their role in the world over the next decade.

"The shifting global context, a new relationship with Europe, and the need to deliver more with finite resources, requires us to evolve and enhance how we achieve our goals," the website stated.

It also said Global Britain is about reinvesting in its relationships, championing the rules-based international order and demonstrating that the UK is open, outward-looking and confident on the world stage.

According to Bishop Cline; however, “There’s nothing that says the UK will come along to OTs and help them to strengthen their constitution or ensure that they have greater autonomy in over their affairs

“So we have to understand, what set out in in the Global Britain paper… we can see this CoI as almost a step in that direction that benefits them,” he said.

The Bishop said in areas like the Blue Economy, the UK has committed to financing since it benefits them and helps to meet some international obligations.

“Also the whole issue of the ICCAT, International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, they want to make sure they have fish because… we all know that tuna is one of the most widely sold fish than anything,” he said.

Benefits of OTs to UK

The Bishop said the goal of the UK is to capitalise on OTs' natural resources, including its sea resources and global proximity.

“You have all of these things that are set out in the relationship and if the UK has anything going for it with the OTs, they have water, they have real estate on the ocean,” he said.

While Bishop Cline has said he supported greater transparency into the affairs of Government as it relates to the CoI, he said any action or outcome which results in the UK taking control of the territory away from Virgin Islanders will be outright rejected.

After the Auditor-Generals testimony yesterday anyone who thinks the CoI is not very much needed and long overdue is most likely complicit with some of the extensive corruption that is being uncovered. How much did de Bishop get, over the years....time will tell.

When the people we gave power to, Misuse it, and the people we put our trust in, abuse it, then we know that we are dealing with bad people, that doesn't represent the people, they put their self interest above the people's interest...

Pastor Cline is so talented he wrote a book called the Monogamy Mystery which basically explains that men are so inherently weak minded that its understandable that they cannot be monogamist and their well-trained wives have to learn to suck it up. Its quite an outstanding treatise seriously, Pulitzer prize winning stuff. If you need a good laugh I highly recommend it.

That is such a BVI minded statement. I happen to have read the book. The author does admit that monogamy is a challenge for humans and that is true. But to say he advocates that wives must suck it up is not true. The book presents a solution and a deep reliance on spirituality to help flesh issues. You should really read the book if you haven't or stop being nasty. Cline is certainly far from perfect, but I suspect if we knew who you were, we would say, so are you. It is also not a joke book. It was very well written.

I have read the book. Just so you know, I have been happily married for 24 years. Monogamy has not been a challenge for me, and I'll take a leap of faith, to say, nor has it been for my husband. We honour each other and make our relationship and those with our children at the heart of all that we do.

You know what I think is nasty? People who hide behind a religious belief, tell others to live virtuous lives but cannot abide by the 7th and 8th Commandments themselves and who make up excuses about "flesh issues" when most adults take responsibility for their behaviour.

Money was "allocated" for religious institutions with no guidelines for disbursement. That echoes similarity with a number of failed states where authoritarian leaders rely on religious figures to act as their cronies. VIP and NDP failed us.

Look long and hard at those people you are surrounding yourself with and ask yourself if they have an OUNCE of integrity between them.... don't get caught up in their nastiness. DISASSOCIATE! If you want a platform find a different one that isn't built on bribery, corruption and theft....

If you're referring to the Vincy born Bishop, I'll say to damn much, some of these so called men of God do not even believe in the things that they preach.
They don't even feel bad that people don't want to come to church, all because of the fake lives that they themselves are living, but God wears pajamas but he doesn't take naps eh.
Corruption in this tiny island is so damn stink you can smell the stench 100 miles away.

Why the white man and the UK who has not done jack for the BVI coming to check records.. it’s like a parent who abandoned her child, never looking back, the older children teaching the younger ones how to tie them shoe and clean them room, and now the absent parent now come from no where to find out how these teachings were given. The child flourishing now. The parent left since 1978…this COI IS A CHATTEL, HIGH TECH LYNCHING…this needs to stop…MARCH AGAINST THIS ARCHAIC 1949 Law.

Absolute rubbish. Why would the UK want to keep BVI? For what? . The CoI is showing that its cant govern itself but why waste the time and the effort - UK should let BVI be independent and let it get on with it. Not sure Mr Cline is in a position to comment until he explains how he got Government contracts.

Money and power corrupt. Its the dragon gold sickness - GREED - so much money and they want it and when you all powerful you get it. Been same story since the beginning of time. Now CoI is just trying to answers for it and it becomes the bad guy! Good for Sonia Webster the BVI needs more like her to keep the Government in check.
