ROSEAU, Dominica- The [British] Virgin Islands finally found that elusive victory in their last game of the group stage at the CONCACAF U15 Championships in Dominica on Friday, August 11, 2023.

After suffering heavy back-to-back defeats, against Turks and Caicos Islands and Dominica, the VI boys closed out participation with a 2-1 victory over Anguilla.

Both of the goals came in the first half, scored by Malik Fenton and Latriel Williams. Williams had also scored in the 1-5 loss to Dominica on August 9, 2023.

Consolation win

The victory for the VI was more of a consolation as the team will not advance in the tournament.

The team returns to the Virgin Islands today, August 14, 2023.

The last time the Championship was held, back in 2019, the VI won Division C, which made them the top seed in their group for the 2023 tournament.

The other teams in the tournament include Sint Marten, St Vincent and the Grenadines, USVI, French Guiana, and Saint Maarten.

Based on the above 9 teams competed in that Division and BVI came 7th, let’s let that sink in for a bit.

Where do they go from here? What plans will be put in place to prepare these young men for the next tournament (s) ; change of coaches, emphasis on nutrition and fitness, consistency with training throughout the year etc

I want to extend congratulations the team B.V.I that participated in the CONCACAF tournament. I wish that they will continue practice and show that desire to succeed. I would like them to play as a team and not as individual player. Teamwork will make the team succeed. I want to wish them best of luck for the future.
