ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Outspoken Pastor of the New Life Baptist Church (NLBC), Bishop John I. Cline says that the integrity of the Virgin Islands (VI) as being a Caribbean country that is rich in morality and spirituality, is being eroded.

Bishop Cline made the comments on the Tuesday, December 22, 2020, edition of the MY BVI radio show on ZKing 100.9FM, alongside co-hosts Angelle A. Cameron and Dr Albert L. Thompkins while on the topic of the family and wayward youth.

More wealth but less morality – Bishop Cline

“We are becoming more wealthy monetarily speaking, we have more things, we have nicer cars, we have bigger houses… but we are becoming spiritually bankrupt and morally bankrupt,” he said.

“That is the formula for the destruction of the country, that is the formula to make any country regressed,” the Bishop further went on say.

Bishop Cline urged his listening audience to continue returning to church, underscoring that the institution still has a special place in the hierarchy of the VI community.

“We understand the dynamics are changing, some people view online and all of that… But please… do not allow your child to grow up without a Godly foundation, you will regret it in the later years,” he said.

The church as a moral compass

Pointing to the church as providing a moral compass for society, the Bishop said values like discipline, righteousness, the importance of hard work and respect for elders should continue being taught.

He said while there is no guarantee that exposure to those teachings would help to steer youths in the right direction, more than likely, the outcomes would be more positive than negative.

“As we move into the new year, there are some things that we need to go back to… some fundamental and foundational things that we are built on,” Mr Cline urged.

He called on the community to not forget God and urged parents in the VI to continue their role of imparting values into their children.

Probably much better for society if we reverted to paying a 10% tithe to the church!

Those that grew up in the ‘church’ are more morally and spiritually corrupt than those that didn’t. Looks like the ‘church’ corrupts the young ones.

Same ting I was thinking. Who is he with his well known "issues" to be telling anyone that that THEY are spiritually bankrupt and morally bankrupt? No sah - clean up your own house and then come us with your judgemental thoughts. Let the Bishop/Preacher who is without sin cast the first stone...until then go siddung.

For those who say lead by example, clean up your own house, etc. How would you be able to tell if someone did in fact clean up their own house? We have a mentality where it is ok for us to place a higher standard on others while placing a lower one of ourselves. If any of you have kids you would understand. How many things have you told your kids in their best interest not to do that you yourself was guilty of? Does that make you any less of a parent to provide guidance to them? The mentality of some persons is very confusing. You have to be perfect in their eyes to say anything about a topic but they can hide behind blogs and act as if their life is perfect or that they are not doing the same things they are tearing another person down for. Does he have a point or not? Yes he does. What is your point is trying to discredit his point which is relevant because he does not fit the mold of some of our biased thinking. Since when is doing wrong, repenting and then trying to do right not leading by example? We get so stuck on the wrong people did that we do not even recognize that God forgives and allows people to be able to continue to live by his grace even after they made mistakes. So I guess by our standards, once people make mistakes, and do not in our eyes or personally come to us and fulfill what we think is repentance, we believe we have a right to judge them. Think about that before you judge others by your own flawed standards and not God's.

You ought to know as the leader of the pack. Morality has been placed on the back burner and "men of the cloth " seek after wealth and riches instead of teaching the true words of Jesus. Remember what Jesus did to the money changers in the temple.

Dont just go to church because it’s just that day of the week. Let’s start with opening our bibles, reading it, developing our personal relationship with Jehovah (yes that’s His name) through prayer and APPLY what we learn to our lives. Love covers a multitude of sins. Let us just start with that.

You must be a Jehovah’s Witness, thinking only your denomination knows the Creator’s name (Jehovah).

Outside of the bible Jesus was mentioned in other historical records. Roman and Jewish records mention the life of Jesus. So we know that he did walk the earth and those historical records corroborates the Bible.

Pastor, when you clean out your closet first, then I would clean mine. Hey, we all got dirt/skeletons in our closets. Everyone has a past, some past stays buried and some past reveals itself.

Is this a joke? when the leaders of the churches stop taking massive salaries, living in big houses with big cars and taking lots of different young ladies out to lunch then maybe they have a leg to stand on to preach.

A lot of these comments are so childish. Clean out his closet bla blah blah....many of you have no fricking idea how this man lives what he does from day to day.but the minute he posts something everone is on his case. How many other pastors in the BVI speak out about what's going on in the BVI NONE. This man was born and raised in the BVI so you will condemn him for speaking out about what's going on. In the bible they also condemned Jesus so you all are no different. He is a man that cares about his country..but unlike some of us we sit and blog and tear down...rather than trying to come together and build this little BVI up. #sickening
