GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala- The Virgin Islands (VI) Senior National Men’s Footballers were hoping to end their first round of games in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers on a very positive note after losing all of their previous games; however, Curacao had other plans on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

The VI boys were swamped 0-8, their largest margin of defeat, and also closed their Group C campaign without getting on to the scoresheets in any of their matches while conceding 19 goals.

The lopsided affair took place at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala and saw Brandley Kuwas (7') Michaël Maria (9', 27') Leandro Bacuna (11') Charlison Benschop (18' PEN, 22') Kenji Gorré (57', 90'+1') all joining the scoring party for Curacao.

The young Virgin Islands outfit conceded 6 of their 8 goals in the first half.

The Virgin Islands were trounced 0-5 goals by Cuba at the same venue on June 2, 2021, and also suffered defeats to Guatemala (0-3) and St Vincent and the Grenadines (0-3) in the previous round staged in Curacao in March 2021.

USVI also winless & scoreless

The US Virgin Islands (USVI) also had a fruitless campaign in Group A of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, losing all four of their games while failing to score.

They conceded 15 goals.
