VI artistes show versatility & swagger as Music Fest kicks off! [Photoslide Included]
This is the first year the Music Fest Committee dedicated an evening to showcase VI’s best of the best, and the artistes did not disappoint as they dished out Soca, Reggae, R&B, Rap, Gospel and Opera. Yes there was Opera!
Performing in front of a sizeable crowd on the popular Cane Garden Bay beach, acts such as Star Struck, which comprises of Lincoln Ward, B’More and Mullah Gwop, gave an international worthy performance that had many asking the question, ‘why aren’t these guys seen more”?
From the dancers’ choreography to the trio’s vocal ranges, worked a hyped crowd as they “mixed things up” with R&B, Rap and Reggae. The trio’s awesome performance made them an instant hit with some female Chilean tourists screaming and dancing in delight!
Aaron the Jedi, one of the most talented R&B/Hip Hop singers, gave a stellar performance, as well as NJAR and B-Breezy. Meanwhile, HBH, Maccabee and Shine I as usual kept it real in spreading the conscious lyrics through Reggae.
Now while many have international R&B superstars as Chris Brown and Usher as fans, Josef George, an upcoming VI artiste showed he has enormous potential. The young R&B performer has the voice and moves to make a big splash in the VI.
Other notable performances included Heritage; Kirk Adams R&B and Tino Martin the “Soca man” from Virgin Gorda.
Surprise, surprise
Two songs into Out Da Box (ODB) performance, Iyaz came on stage to reunite with the group that launched his career. He flew in at the last moment to surprise his fans, and before leaving the stage he belted out one of his hit singles “Replay”.
Another surprise act came from Gerard 'Bandura' Huggins who shocked the crowd by singing Opera.
The singer and musician, looking dapper in a tuxedo, wowed with some of the classical music and wrapped up his remarkable performance with “Old Man River” from Showboat.
Workout session
VI’s Extreme Band started the ball rolling by ensuring patrons were carried through the paces for a workout session with St. Vincent’s Fire Man Hooper and Antigua’s El A Kru featuring Tizzy.
The band was quite entertaining with a number of their hits, as well as, delivering “a dash” of Pop, Soul and Reggae.
Up next was the energiser bunny Fireman Hooper who kept up the frenzied ambience, and even had patrons going into the sea.
Winding down the musical extravaganza, which concluded in the wee hours of the morning, was El A Kru.
This evening, May 26, Lady Saw, Quito and the Edge and Third World will take the stage.
