VI airport operations return to normal
On Saturday, January 3, 2026, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed a temporary restriction on the airspace covering Puerto Rico. It also issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) barring any US-registered planes from flying in Venezuelan airspace.
The disruption affected all U.S.-registered aircraft and U.S.-based carriers operating within the Caribbean region.
“All airports in the Virgin Islands are now operating as scheduled. However, passengers may experience higher-than-usual activity as airlines and airport teams continue to assist travellers affected by the interruption,” the BVIAA said in a statement on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
The all clear was given by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy in a post on X, Sunday, which read, “Airlines are informed, and will update their schedules quickly.”
Advice to passengers
The travelling public is being strongly advised to contact their airline directly for the most current and accurate information regarding flight status, and confirm flight details before travelling to the airport, as schedules may change with limited notice.
The BVIAA said it “remains in close communication with airline partners and relevant aviation stakeholders and will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available”.
