VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Virgin Gorda resident Mr Sydney Wheatley has received the keys to his brand-new home just in time for the holiday season.

This latest handover is part of the Ministry of Health and Social Development’s Housing Recovery Assistance Programme.

According to a press release from the Government Information Service (GIS) on December 22, 2023, Mr Wheatley is one of three sister island residents who have received their new home in the past three months under the programme.

Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) stated that the handover on Virgin Gorda highlights the Ministry’s dedicated work in ensuring residents on the Sister Islands get the help they need.

Honourable Wheatley said, “I must thank the contractor, my team at the Ministry. For us, this is another project that has been well-executed in a timely fashion. We've been doing these social homes all over the Territory and we intend to continue doing them. So, I am pleased we can hand over yet another house for 2023.”

'Grateful' Wheatley

Meanwhile, Mr. Sydney Wheatley said he was grateful for the home and the assistance provided to him by the Ministry of Health and Social Development.

In addition, the contractors selected to build the house, K&C Construction, noted that their firm was grateful for the opportunity to construct the house and give the beneficiary a new place to rest just in time for the festive season.

Since the inception of the Housing Recovery Assistance programme after the 2017 hurricanes, more than 25 homes have been built and over 200 repaired.

I see nothing to congratulate him for. What did he do? He looks like a young man. Unless he’s incapable of working, I see nothing to celebrate.

I thought the BVI was a well to do society but it seems
Like many are struggling. Things have changed fast, and not for the better. Building homes for people is a good thing but it’s not a good sign at all.

BACK IN MY DAY A BVI MAN WAS EXPECTED TO WORK TO EARN WHAT THEY HAVE NOT RECIEVE GOVERNMENT HAND OUT. WHY THE MINISTER IS NOT GIVING THE PEOPLE THAT BUILT THE BVI AT ADENA DONOVAN HOME FOR THE ELDERLY A NEW HOUSING AND FALICIATING THEM.

PEOPLE IN THE BVI WE ARE ON OUR OWN THE MINISTERS ARE ALL SELF CENTERED FOR THEMSELVES.
WAKE UP THE GOVERNMENT IS IN NETURAL IT IS ONLY THE BUSINESS THAT EMPLOY THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE ARE HURTING. AND THE PREMIER HAS HIS HEAD IN THE SAND.

Congratulations Mr.Wheatley on receiving assistance from the government, especially as a young tax paying citizen. It saddens my heart to see the comments that are distasteful. I would expect everyone to be happy to see the future generations being assisted but it seems others are blinded by personal opinions & views but how can we grow as a better BVI when we don't celebrate in our own countrymen joyous times? How can we say BVILove when we dont even want to greet our own with it?

No problem with social homes but the surname sounds like a bit of a family leg up?
