VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI - Cognizant of the cash strapped state of the Government of the Virgin Islands, members of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee headed by Ms Sasha D.A. Flax has taken a proactive move to raise funds to offset expenses likely to be incurred for VG Easter Festival 2017.

In fact the Committee is already in debt as Culture Minister Hon Myron V. Walwyn promised the people of Virgin Gorda and their festival sub-committee that they would be granted $100,000 for their 2016 festival, but only delivered on $60,000, according to information obtained by this news site from festival spending records.

This news site understands that the monies owed ($40,000) are needed by the VG Easter Festival Committee to pay its bills incurred from the 2016 event.

‘Bullet in the chest’

Meanwhile, for Virgin Gorda the 2017 VG Easter Festival will be a half century milestone - 50 years, come next year. When the committee organised its first major fundraising event it did so with the understanding that it would have had the fullest support of Government, its social arms and the entire territory.

However, according to several persons from the sister island, they were disappointed when the VI Festival and Fairs Committee (VIF&FC) moved to stage a major free Block Party on the same night of the Virgin Gorda fundraising event.

"That was totally a bullet in the chest of the Virgin Gorda people. They lost big time on that show (Kings of Comedy) big loss and I blame the Tortola Festival committee because they could have done their block party on another day," ranted one Virgin Gordian who opted to be identified only as Minty.

The man went onto further state, "VG had their thing planned long before and the block party could have been the next day. It's obvious that they not looking out for VG. Tola had two big events that block party and the track event. VG had boat schedule adjusted and everything for Tola people to come for VG thing but why pay for a show when you can go to a free one in these hard times?" said Minty.

This news site confirmed with several persons who were present at the event that the turn-out was far beyond expectation. Non-the-less, the show was one of high quality and suitable for the entire family.

The Block Party on De Castro Street on July 2, 2016 was well attended.

Efforts to get a comment from both the VG Easter Festival Committee and the VI Festival and Fairs Committee were futile up to time of publication.

Stop being foolish! The track meet is where most people went and was a better event either way. Plan things better, communicate better and we won't be here bickering. If people wanted comedy they would've been in VG. The people heading these Committees are the problem and everyone afraid to say so.

A block party in Tortola flopped a comedy show in Virgin Gorda? Two completely different types of events, two completely different Islands and Tortola is to be blamed? The Kings of Comedy show was garbage to begin with, how about taking responsibility for that aspect? Nobody was going to VG to see 2 and a half comedians with their dry ass jokes. Time to be accountable and stop casting blame, your show would have flopped either way because it was crap.

Its about time VG people stand up and stopp take the bull they have been given for years. The 2nd rated basketball court is a prime example which is now been used as a smoke house by the young man for smoking their ganja. Why couldn't have been similar to the one in Talktola albeit on a small scale. Don't worry the years rolling by quickly and election will come soon.

So whose fault is it that the place is being used for that purpose? What kind of Citizen are you to just come blogging instead of taking action and doing somethinf about it? The Govt spends millions building things and are still expected to hold their hands and force them to do the right things? You all are sickening man!! You ask for facilities, you get them then sit by and watch a few idiots ruin it for everyone else and still blame govt. If VG ppl cared so much why didnt they attend the fundraiser?

@Imao: We ain begging the Politicans for nothing. We ain like the rest who beg for money to pay rent, ectrical bills, mortgages and the likes. Its about what is right. The Government is corrupt taking handouts under the table from the foreign developers for political favours etc. Don't get me started. All I am saying is if you going to do something do it properly. The courts should have been build in such a way that it could have been secured similat to the MPSC in Tortola only to be used for official games. The old court could have remained for use on a daily basis. They have money to grease the hand of their corrupt minions but didn't have enough to build something the way it was supposed to be built.

Are you going to answer the question? It wasn't built properly? You said it's used for guys to smoke weed. What's missing, a snack vending machine for when they get the munchies and a filtration system for those with allergies or asthma?

So are you saying during the election campaign when you all were partaking of the free boat rides in your free shirts that you did not notice the government was corrupt? You did not notice during the grand opening ceremony that the court was a waste of time? No, you were too busy chanting NDP all the way and now you are upset

So what does the show in vg had to do with the block party it aint like the block party was all that..... mostly a bunch of kids as far as i see... so i guess the tortola committee should blame the track event for the poor turn out... time to stop the blame game and step up ur game... ppl have a choice where to spend them hard working dollars

Planning is a skill. Organizing is a talent, leading is a gift.. If we just understand these simple things and stop picking people we like, or people who yanking and put them in position without the skill. The talent and gift. This the out come...failure...That's why for the past two years I've been suggesting that the organizing of these festivals be contracted out,,,allow talented and giveted people to bid.

And whenever there's a comedy show in Tortola, the same VG people pack up on the ferry in droves! 2 things could have been the issue here; wrong selection of comedians or the fact that this present festival committee has dragged what was left from the previous leadership down in the dirt.
