NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI— Livestock farmer Victor R. Creque is counting his losses after a brutal attack by two stray dogs resulted in the killing of several of his goats and despite reporting the matter to the authorities, little to no decisive action has been taken, leaving him at his “wit's end".

Roam & Attack

According to Creque, the repeated attacks on his livestock were carried out by a German Shepherd and a Rottweiler, usually acting together in the vicinity of his home and farming area on North Sound, Virgin Gorda. He noted that while the dogs’ original owner has since passed away, responsibility for their care has reportedly been assumed by the deceased’s cousin, whom he identified.

He reported in an exclusive interview with VINO; however, the dogs appear to be inadequately contained, enabling them to roam and attack local animals.

“I don’t know what else is going to happen,” a clearly exasperated Creque said during a phone interview. “The cost of maintaining livestock is already difficult—now with these attacks, it’s almost impossible to continue.”

Creque said he reported the incident to the police shortly after discovering the scene on Monday, May 5, 2025, around 3:15 PM. Police ranks, he said, arrived within five minutes and documented the incident, taking photographs and statements, but no further action has been taken since. According to Creque, “They took pictures, that’s all.”

The incident has also been brought to the attention of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and the local veterinary authority, according to Creque. One official, he said, indicated that they were working on a process to euthanise the dogs legally, but noted that it involved a formal letter to be drafted and sent to a magistrate for approval.

Not wanting to take matters into his own hands

“She gave her permission to put the dog to sleep, but said it’s a long process and didn’t know what to do; My thing is, we don’t need dogs like that anymore, you know what I mean?”

Compounding the situation, Creque said, while he is the holder of a hunting licence, he cannot take matters into his own hands, especially in a residential neighbourhood.

According to Creque, the dogs had previously been locked up, but questioned the adequacy of such measures, saying “You can’t just lock up a dog in a house.”

He told VINO, “I spoke to the guy from Fisheries and Agriculture about the situation. He said he could see where the trouble is,” but to no avail.

Up to publication time, efforts to reach the Director of Agriculture and Fisheries Department, Mr Theodore E. James, for comment were unsuccessful.

him need to keep his goats on his own land, and stop them going everywhere they want. He needs to fence his goats in and not me have to fence my land to keep his goats off

@ Hottie. I agree with you. People have farm animals they won't contain and fence on their property, so everyone around must suffer. These animals destroy everything you try to beautify on your land, and then have the nerve to complain about other stray animals. These animal owners have no respect for themselves or their neighbors. Something must be done!

Only Ignorant, vile, uneducated, idiots would suggest poisoning God's creatures. It will come back to haunt you. God WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS. There have been cases where toddlers have picked up the poison and eaten it.

VG got a serious problem with these so called livestock farmers not to mention dog owners. Sheep, goats, dogs and chickens are a huge problem and the agricultural department turns a blind eye to all of it. $hit everywhere! Can’t hike, walk or ride anywhere without stepping in $hit. Go to the restaurant, bar even the airport there’s a pile of $hit for you to step in. Can’t have a garden unless you spend a bunch of money on a big fence to keep “livestock” out and when they done damaging your property you get to step in some $hit! Go ahead and waste your time trying to hold a “livestock” farmer accountable! Set ah fools

Aren't all dogs required to be tagged. Fine the owners.

The people who tag and register their dogs are mostly expatriates. Most just leave their dogs tied up to suffer. As Gandi said, you can tell the character of a country by the way it treats its animals. BVI is desperately lacking in character.Thank God for THE Humane Society and PAWS.

Question.. where were these goats when they were attacked and killed? I can assure you just like they are stray dogs, so are his goats. How are you a farmer but your stock is roaming north sound roads and yards freely. Secure your stock and just maybe the dogs will not be able to attack. I’m not condoning stray dogs, but two wrongs don’t make it right.

Who the hell is Theodore James another one collecting money for doing nothing? There is nothing going on in VG in the name of agriculture except for brandnew pick-up truck park in someone's yard.

This doesn’t sound like a difficult situation to resolve but in the BVI we struggle with the most basic issues. What a stupid place.

There’s more to this story, back in the days, almost every home in north sound had a 12gauge rifle and I”m sure there are a few still around but the thing is, the owner of the dogs is feared even in death. These dogs will kill every goat and not a man touch them and the whole north sound knows that.
