Venezuela earthquakes kill at least 164

CARACAS, Venezuela, SA- Back-to-back earthquakes on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, have killed at least 164 people in Venezuela, acting President Delcy E. Rodríguez has said.

The first earthquake, at 6:05 PM, was recorded at 7.2 magnitude. Minutes later, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported an even larger 7.5 magnitude quake.

Buildings in Caracas, in the north of Venezuela, had completely caved in, and rescue workers were frantically searching for victims. At least 164 people have died, and 971 were injured.

The US Geological Survey says thousands of people could have been killed in total.

A tsunami advisory was briefly issued for Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and the Virgin Islands.
