@ Long Looker, if your reporting is accurate, someone(s) must be held accountable. This is gross negligence. Why did an empty fire truck show up at a fire? Was there a hydrant close by for it to hook to?

What do Fire personnel when not out on call? At every shift chsnge, the on coming shift should inspect the equipment, ensuring that the truck is filled with water and ready to roll etc. Do ah au damn job. The current Fire Chief need to take care of business, ie, protecting life and property.

A fire truck NEVER RESPONDS TO FIRE EMPTY YALL NEED TO STOP THIS CONCEPT AND UNDERSTAND THE MESSURE OF FIGHTING A FIRE AT THAT MAGNITUDE.. first thing first the fire truck came before the water truck the fire truck have water but if you’re pumping 250 gallons in 1 min with a truck that carries exact 250 with in a min water is basically coming to an empty if there is no water source initially when or before the fire is being fight it become a lil
More challenging because you now have to find the closest hydrant which it was located at the bus stop still a distance away… it was upon the 2 off duty officer that went and got platinum trucking water truck “breeze”…. Fire men been crying for years that they need a water tender to help back up fire trucks with extra water and eliminate these type of scenario that fire truck goes to fire empty… but no the government tend to play with the ppl and give the minimum when it come to fire suppression fighting … please yall do yall checks and see what it really takes being a fire officer! an I salute to the officers who contain that fire from burning any of the houses in that location all homes was safe and kept.. vehicles that was damage was abandoned vehicles thanks to the officers for saving the garage paint shop in the same said location and the bus also that did not get burn.. that fire was really a big fire and for a under staff less man power they got it under controlled pretty good also to the ppl that actually not stand around and just watch your actions would not go unnoticed…. LONG LOOK WE COME FROM!

Incident to a community(s) building out, a holistic approach ( the approach should occur during the building out, preferable to retrofitting after build out is completed) to provide fire education and training, investing, planning, preventative measures, protection, physical infrastructure ( roads, water, hydrant, ie, fire flow) etc., periodic fire inspections, fire fighting, etc., to protect life and property. Fire stations with adequate staffing, equipment, etc, should be located at strategic points throughout the community. Nevertheless, though it may not be practical for all communities to be equidistant from a fire station, it should be the goal. Nonetheless, reasonable, practical, and attainable minimum response times and geographical coverage should be established.

@ E. Leonard, yes, , protecting life and property is important but way government is going to find all this power of money to build, staff, and equip, etc, to strategically position fire stations throughout the territory? Government has limited funding; its operations and maintenance budget is approximately $500M. To do what you proposing means some other critical functions will have to be cut. The BVI cannot duplicate completely what is done in developed countries. Keep this in mind.

Leonard,, so every manjack wherever they live would be an equal distance from a fire station. Would every fire crew have an EMT or EMS? Ambitious.. can the BVI if not attain closely approach this level of service? It could surprise me but I would not hold my breath. Would all fire stations have an assigned ambulance.? It was a nice dream but too back the dream is over and back to reality. This Walter Mitty wonderland, excursion, etc., is too much. Bro you want to set minimum response time for fire trucks? Wonderful!!!

@E. Leonard, true strong and effective fire services is critical to protecting life, and protecting residential, commercial, industrial, public sector,,etc., property. Consequently, as noted, effective fire services on the main island of Tortola and on outlying islands require adequate investing in facilities, education and training, staffing, equipment, etc. Further, a high quality, high performing, highly rated, etc, fire services agency would reduce property insurance. Further, I concur that setting minimum response times and geographical coverage are attainable goals. Setting minimum response times and geographic coverage goals can be met. They are SMART ( Specific Measurable, Achievable Relevant Timely).

Moreover, taking measures to protect life and property is not only the responsibility of government, including inspection and certification agencies, but also residential property/home owners, businesses, public sector managers/supervisors, etc.

@RealPol, y’all with all these cliches, ie, SMART. Sweet, smooth sounding cliches are not necessarily effective solutions to problems. They may be false friends, fools gold, etc. We need practical solutions to our myriad of problems.
