BRANDYWINE BAY, Tortola, VI- A vehicle ploughed into two utility poles at Brandywine Bay early this morning, Sunday, April 26, 2026, knocking out power in East End and Virgin Gorda.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are unclear, and it is also unclear whether anyone was injured.

Power to East End was restored after a couple of hours; however, an update from the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) at 10:50 AM stated that efforts were still going to return electricity to customers of Virgin Gorda.

“While full restoration was originally anticipated by 9:30 AM, a further unforeseen issue was identified at the substation on Virgin Gorda during the restoration process, which has extended the duration of the works.

“Our teams continue to work diligently to restore power to Virgin Gorda as soon as possible,” BVIEC stated.

After all these years, the govt. still can’t get it right. An entire island (VG) out of power all day because someone in Tortola hits a pole. Ridiculous….

I thought we were given an eye test before getting a license, because this person who ran into these huge objects must be blind.

In the United States, for the driver, this would bring a heavy fine and jail sentence, including for utility companies or private companies. Here, anything goes. Concrete trucks can burst down the line, and drunk drivers who know that they are not facing any consequences other than getting their car fixed just drive recklessly.

vg needs their own power plant, a drunk on tortola should not be able to turn the power off on virgin gorda, its a disgrace

The can't-drive moo-moos are all over. If they stop buying their license and driving without one, they won't be in these situationships.

Now let's all wait and see what BVIEC will be remanded to do,by government officials, in order to circumvent any future occurance of this kind. If Road Town was also impacted - there will be hell to pay this morning - but, for East End and Virgin Gorda - just keep sending in those large "tax payments" to fund the BVI Government and best-of- luck with your infrastructure. Shameful! The people of Virgin Gorda deserves better and should demand action from the 9th District Representive without fear or failure. DEMAND OUR OWN POWER STATION ON VG.
