VATICAN CITY, Rome, Italy- White smoke has emerged from the chimney in the Vatican, which means a new pope has been elected. The new Pope is Robert Francis Prevost - the first American pope.

A senior cardinal will soon confirm the decision with the words "Habemus Papam" - Latin for "we have a Pope" - and introduce the new pontiff by his chosen papal name.

Prevost, 69, is seen as a reformer.

There is cheering and celebration amongst the gathered crowds in the Vatican.

Flags waved and people have been embracing one another as the search for the next leader of the Catholic Church has reached its conclusion.

Now that white smoke has appeared, the new pontiff will normally appear on the balcony overlooking St Peter's Square in the next hour.

Pope Francis of Argentina passed away on Easter Monday, aged 88.

His funeral was held on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Politicians, celebrities, and royalty attended the event as thousands of mourners lined the streets of St Peter's Square in the Vatican.

The Vatican is not like the BVI - persons are appointed based in merit in the Vatican on on the colour of their skin like in the BVI.

Actually, the new pope has black blood running through his veins. It came from his grandparents. Read about his family before they ran away and played all passed for white. Bet you didn't know that.

Jesus called the apostle Peter “rock”: “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18). Peter was the First Pope and we continue what Jesus has instructed. Many are called but few are chosen. Those chosen have a true calling and respect themselves and their bodies as temples of the Lord.
