FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI— A 21-year-old woman on St Croix, US Virgin Islands (USVI) was arrested on Friday, November 18, 2022, for allegedly assaulting a minor, the [US] VI Police Department (VIPD) has announced.

According to VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, members of the department's Criminal Investigation Bureau executed an arrest warrant at 9:20 am Friday on Antenasia Marrero outside her place of employment without incident.

Her arrest came as a result of an incident that occurred on December 11, 2020, where she allegedly assaulted a minor child causing visible injuries to the child’s neck, according to the police report.

Marrero was charged with second-degree assault (domestic violence), child abuse, and simple assault and battery (domestic violence).

Following her arrest, Marrero was transported to the VIPD's Mars Hill headquarters in Frederiksted where she was mirandised and declined to give a statement, according to police.

Unable to make bail of $50,000, she was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending her advisement hearing scheduled for Monday.

This assault happened 2 years ago. Why are they now arresting her for a crime that happened so long ago? Something is not right here
