USVI: Man fatally shot in Havensight Mall parking lot

HAVENSIGHT, St Thomas, USVI- A shooting incident in Havensight early Saturday, October 21, 2023, has left one man dead, the [US] VI Police Department(VIPD) has confirmed to the Consortium.

The incident occurred at 12:58 AM in the parking lot of the mall, the VIPD said in a new update, correcting itself from an earlier statement that said the shooting occurred outside of Pier 22 Bar & Grill.

According to the VIPD, upon receiving calls about the shooting, authorities quickly arrived at the scene where they found an unresponsive black male with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Emergency Medical Technicians were dispatched, but by 1:09 AM, they confirmed that the male showed no signs of life.

The victim was later identified as 31-year-old Cursim Hansen, as confirmed by his next of kin. This death marks the 32nd homicide in the US Virgin Islands for the year 2023. The tally now stands at 17 on St Thomas and 15 on St Croix.

The VIPD is actively seeking information regarding this incident. Authorities urge anyone with relevant details to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

    All life is equal but it's weird to see black killing their own so. Even in better socioeconomic condition wherein some countries cost of living cause frustration the usvi is ok.
