FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI- [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) officers came under heavy fire Wednesday night, October 18, 2023, at the Sugar Mill Estate in Barren Spot, in the vicinity of Home Depot, with preliminary reports suggesting that a total of 17 shots were fired in the officers' direction.

The gunshots, which were fired at about 6:50 pm, were detected by the VIPD's Shot Spotter system and later confirmed through a radio transmission from a VIPD officer who reported the shots fired at their unit. In the ensuing search, officers managed to recover one firearm at the scene.

The Special Operation Bureau, alongside forensic experts, promptly arrived at the incident location to spearhead the investigation. They are currently on the lookout for two male suspects who, after the shooting, hastily fled the scene on foot, abandoning their vehicle. Authorities are employing all resources to track down and apprehend the suspects.

The VIPD is urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities or information that might aid in the apprehension of the suspects.

Updates on the situation will be released as more details become available.

THATS A TWO WAT STREET OR EVEN 3 - GUNS DON'T FIRE BY ITSELF S- ITS THE PERSON WHO PULLS THE TRIGGER - NOBODY FORCE YOU TO BUY A GUN ( UNLESS ITS TO PROTECT YOURSELF OR PROPERTY - TO SHOOT AT THE POLICE IS BRAZEN AND ARROGANT AND IN MY BOOK THE POLICE SHOULD TAKE TAKE THEM OUT TO SEND A MESSAGE THAT IF YOU SHOOT AT THE POLICE ( AUTOMATICALLY ) ITS A DEATH WARRANT
