ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Despite schools in the territory being permitted to reopen for face to face instruction on September 6, 2021, the use of technology, including laptops and tablets, will not be done away with.

In fact, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has said electronic devices must be used in school on a daily basis.

Dr Wheatley was at the time giving an update on schools on August 10, 2021, when he stated that students must go to school with the proper tools.

Tools he said should include a personal laptop or tablet, textbooks, and writing materials.

Use of electronic devices in school ‘now official’

“Cell phones will not be permitted as the digital device for classes,” Dr Wheatley stated.

He added, “Electronic devices must be used in school daily. This means that despite the fact that students are now back in the classroom, the use of technology in the teaching and learning process will continue.

“As we have determined, this methodology and instructional format with the use of electronic devices is now official in school delivery. Electronic textbooks, as well as google classroom, will be fully utilised.”

The theme for the 2021/2022 academic year is ‘Educating All in Changing Times: Every learner succeeds’.

Dr Wheatley said the theme is a continuation of the one from last year but expanded to further emphasise Government’s intention to ensure that every learner will have success in their academic pursuits.

I don't even know what your comment means. Climate change and digital progress are not the same thing at all. There is a relationship through tech advances, but the agendas are often very different. The digitisation is happening because we all lazy and look at the immediate benefits, not the long term risks

So what are the teachers using in the classroom? Promethean Panels. It’s a great tool for teaching.
