Use cameras to monitor staff behaviour – Courtney de Castro
de Castro announced on his weekly Speak Your Mind TV show aired on May 25, 2013 that this was a measure towards improving employees’ behaviour in the workplace.
His comments come following a recent article by this news site that workers at the Scrub Island Resort have allegedly been forced to suffer various acts of discrimination. The claim has since been debunked by management.
“If you have cameras in the kitchen looking at your staff, it will stop people from vandalising the place. It would also stop employees from mistreating other employees because you would have evidence that you can confront persons with…” de Castro said. He noted that the practice was already in place by some companies, but should be employed by more.
The talk show host felt that the VI society has reached to the point where various technological tools could be used to improve the quality of service and the quality of livelihood for workers of various jobs in the Territory.
He also recommended that companies employ the ‘friendly shopper’ approach to examine whether their employees were carrying out company policy as they should be.
“This is something that can improve a company,” de Castro said while explaining that shoppers can be paid to purchase products from or use the services of a given company so that the business owners can know whether they are meeting their goals of improving customer care.
“I really was not happy, reading what I was reading,” de Castro said of the article published by this news site without identifying it by name. He added that it was cause for concern in this society.
“I’m making a suggestion here, if you turn your cameras [internally] to your organisation as well as [externally], you may learn some real facts about your company,” the host said.
He also advised that the method may be used as a tool to help improve the company.
