GEORGETOWN, Guyana- The United States government on Tuesday afternoon delivered at least 26 Guyanese deportees on a special chartered flight which landed at the Cheddi Jagan Airport just after 3 o’ clock.

The deportees were welcomed back to the land of their birth by heavily armed members of the Tactical Services Unit of the Guyana Police Force. They were escorted under tight security to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police Force for questioning and processing before they are released.

News Source understands that the deportees include a number of persons who served time for serious crimes in the United States including narco trafficking and assault and robbery.

Details about the deportees have not  been released. It is unclear what systems have been put in place here in Guyana to reintegrate them back into the Guyanese society.

In the past, there have been complaints about the “involuntary re-migrants” being left to the mercy of an unfamiliar society. Many of them would have left Guyana during their childhood days.

There have been attempts in the past to get them involved in a number of programmes. The Guyana Police Force intends to keep a close eye on many of them who have been sent back, especially those who would have served time for serious criminal offences.
