ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- There has been a marked increase in persons getting their first shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine, Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has noted.

Some 17, 054 vaccines have been administered in the Virgin Islands (VI), according to the May 26, 2021 update by Government.

Some 11, 696 persons have received their first shot while 5, 358 have received both jabs.

“In terms of first dose, we have had an upsurge of persons taking the vaccines as of late. At one time we were stuck on nine thousand plus, I think, now we are close to 12,000 persons being vaccinated with the first dose,” Premier Fahie noted during a press conference on May 26, 2021.

‘It means a lot’- Premier

He said Government is hoping to at least have some 17,000 persons received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

“With that being so it means a lot because we are trying to at least reach to 17,000, at a minimum of persons with first dose. So to be now at 12,000 means we just have about 5000 more to go.

“It would be glad to see more than that but that would be a comfortable number to help us further open our economy in more way than we are doing now,” Premier Fahie said.

Many persons in the Virgin Islands were at first reluctant to take the vaccines for different reasons, including conspiracy theories, which continue to be debunked, and the issue of blood clots.

Maybe I'm blind. These were the same figures on the last update. Nothing has changed. Can fool some of the people some of the time. Can't fool all the people all the time. (Bob Marley).......

The Premier's tone is encouraging and positive. Likely to get better results that way. Most would not wants to hear condescending messages telling people to take the vaccine.
