UPDATE: ZBVI dedicates restored tower
Speaking at the dedication, General Manager, Mr Harvey Herbert, thanked a number of persons and companies that assisted in getting the station back on its feet after it suffered the loss and encouraged listeners to ‘stay tuned’.
ZBVI is an AM radion station that can be heard on 780 AM.
Operations Manager Sandra Potter-Warrican related that the tower that was erected was the second tower ordered by the radio station after the first order had mysteriously disappeared enroute to the Virgin Islands.
However, the company took extra precaution in ensuring that the second tower ordered was delivered as promised.
Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Mark H. Vanterpool expressed his appreciation on behalf of the government and people of the Virgin Islands and said the radio station had been a part of the people for a long time.
“We know that this was a mishap that no one expected and we know that the group has gone through quite a bit over the months to try to bring it back to its old state,” he added.
He encouraged the team at ZBVI to continue to do a good job for VIslanders near and far.

All systems go as ZBVI dedicates tower tomorrow, Jan 30
- extended signal strength & triple reinforcement among new features
BAUGHER’S BAY, Tortola, VI – While declaring that ZBVI’s recently replaced tower is now completely back to its former signal strength, management also announced that the tower boasts triple reinforcement among some of its improved features.
A dedication ceremony will be held near the new 300-ft signal tower at Baugher’s Bay, tomorrow, January 30, 2014 after the previous tower was felled when a jeep dislodged one of the supporting lines near its base in March 2013.
The now slightly slimmer signal tower, which was erected in August 2013, now boasts a light at its apex which acts as a beacon to ocean going vessels and Operations Manager, Mrs Sandra Potter-Warrican, explained that the tower has also benefitted from triple the reinforcement at its base.
The station previously experienced disparity between its old tuner and the new tower after it had been erected and several pockets of persons were unable to affected by this but engineers returned to install a new tuning box and according to Mrs Potter-Warrican, all systems are now go.
“With the new tuning box you now have extended signal range,” she said while noting that checks will have to be done further afield in the Caribbean to determine the full extent of the signal range
Apart from exploring the possibility of adding new programming for the remainder of the year, ZBVI will also be looking at maintaining its presence on Cable TV’s Channel780.
“We are happy that Cable TV was able to accommodate us with the 780 Channel and the intention is to keep that on because it is a wonderful feature for many people in the home,” Mrs Potter-Warrican added.
