VI Women make light work of Jamaica in regional softball tournament

The [British] Virgin Islands started their campaign in the Eastern Caribbean Amateur Softball Confederation’s Women’s Fast-Pitch Tournament Qualifier with a convincing victory on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

The VI National Team routed Jamaica 20-5 in three innings in the tournament’s opening game at the National Park Ball Field in Cruz Bay, on St John, US Virgin Islands (USVI).

Jamaica had closed to within 6-5 after scoring twice in the top of the third inning, only to see the [British] Virgin Islands (1-0) erupt for 14 runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Sheniqua Fahie got the win, allowing just one runner on base (by a walk) before ending the top of the third with a strikeout. She had relieved starter Thea Cooke, who allowed five runs off three hits and seven walks over 2 2/3 innings, with three strikeouts.

Captain Darier Malone aka 'Dee' hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 2nd inning, clearing the bases to give the VI a 4-run lead. She was later named Player of the Game.

Meanwhile, the USVI National Team shut out St Maarten 9-0 in five innings in the six-team tournament.

I am not surprised that the comments are few in support of you. The rest of the population are caught up on money issues and all the other distractions that steal our love, peace and joy for everyone.
