ALAJUELA, Costa Rica- The Virgin Islands (VI) U-20 Football Team are off to a good start following their debut and opening match at the 2026 CONCACAF Qualifiers earlier today against Dominica.

The scores at the end of the match played in Alajuela, Costa Rica were 2-2. 

Nine minutes into the game, Jaadon Quashie scored the team’s first goal, equalising with the Dominicans. Rush Broadderick, just before halftime on a free kick, levelled the score again 2-2. 

Goalkeeper Toby Whiteside saved a penalty in the first minute of overtime. 

Both VI and Dominica now have 1 point each.

VI to make CONCACAF U-20 Qualifiers debut today

- placed in Group C

ALAJUELA, Costa Rica- The Virgin Islands U-20 Football Team will make its debut at the 2026 CONCACAF Qualifiers with the team’s first match scheduled for today, February 23, 2026 in Costa Rica.

The U-20 team is currently in Alajuela, Costa Rica, as part of 32 Member Associations participating in Costa Rica on their journey towards the 2026 CONCACF U-20 Championship. 

The team’s participation follows months of structured preparation and commitment.

The squad

The team includes Goalkeepers Toby Whiteside and Akeem Paddy; Midfielders Joel Mars, Dylan Clyne, Blake Kirk, Rush Broadderick, Sam Sharma, Luca Stuttard and Theo Coombs; Defenders Jadden Abrams, T’khoy Morton, Te’khory Penn, Sean Samuel, and Momcil Yordanovl; and Forwards Jaadon Quashie, Latriel Williams, Robert Penman, Zevieh Abraham, Decoi Prine, and Oluwfikayomi Adeniji. 

“The squad reflects a strong blend of local and overseas-based talent. Most of the selected players are currently abroad attending schools or competing in academy programs, bringing valuable international exposure and experience to the national setup,” the BVI Football Association said.   

Other team members include Head Coach Felix Percival, Assistant Coach Richie Morton, Senior Men's Head Coach David Perez, Goalkeeper Coach Morris Mark Jr., Team Manager Nigel Williams, Physiotherapist Chester James, and Equipment Manager Ikyjah Williams. 

Match schedule

The VI has been drawn in Group C and will face Dominica, Antigua & Barbuda, Dominican Republic, and St. Lucia.

Match Days are as follows:

February 23 VI vs Dominica at 11:00 a.m.

February 25 VI vs Antigua & Barbuda at 11:00 a.m.

February 27 VI  vs Dominican Republic at 2:00 p.m.

March 3 VI vs St. Lucia at 11:00 a.m.

The U-20 Concacaf Championship is scheduled for the summer of 2026, from July 25 to August 9. It will feature the region's 12 best men's U-20 national teams, divided into three groups of four. 

The tournament will also serve as the qualifying competition for both the 2027 FIFA Men's U-20 World Cup, the 2027 Pan American Games and the 2028 Summer Olympics.
