UPDATE: Two charged after attempt to release dolphins
While no date has been released as to when the two will have to answer to the charges of criminal damage and criminal trespass, the Public Relations Department of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has confirmed the men as Phillipe Lamoureux, 41, and Tremblay Alain, 44, both Canadian citizens.
As first and accurately reported by this news site, the two who are said to be closely affiliated to the organization Green Peace were caught red handed by on-duty security guards of Leonard and Associate Security Services Ltd., and subsequently arrested by ranks of the RVIPF as they attempted the daring act.
The incident was confirmed by the Manager of Dolphin Discovery on Tortola, Mr Emmanuel Gilbert who had declared, “…We are all ok.”
The RVIPF’s Public Relations Department subsequently issued a press release on the matter.

2 animal activists broke into dolphin compound & tried to free dolphins
- it is alleged that the two Caucasian males are from Canada and could be linked to Greenpeace
PROSPECT REEF, Tortola, VI – This news site has confirmed that at least two Caucasian males believed to be animal activists from the organization Greenpeace broke into the Swim with the Dolphins compound and allegedly attempted to break free the sea animals.
This according to one of our sources took place a few days shy of Christmas Day and was said by the source, “They wanted to free the dolphins for Christmas.”
The incident occurred in the wee hours of the night while the compound had been closed to the public. The Police were called and arrested the one person caught engaging in what is believed to be criminal activity.
While this news site awaits response from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Public Relations Unit on the allegations successful contact was made with the Manager of Swim with the Dolphins Mr. Emmanuel Gilbert who confirmed that there was indeed a break in at the facility.
Declining to give details on the issue, Gilbert said, “They tried but they couldn’t….We are all very fine, thank you very much.”
One of the two who allegedly attempted the mission was caught red handed by an on-duty security guard and other workers of Swim with the Dolphins while the other allegedly escaped but it is not clear if any charges were or will be pressed against the perpetrators. Both are believed to be from Greenpeace, a non-governmental organization (NGO), but this was not confirmed.

I doubt very much that the perpetrators are from Greenpeace as the folks from Greenpeace would know that they were sentencing the dolphins to death by releasing them into the wild.
As for those who presume to "own" and capitalize on captured dolphins, I will reserve comment other than to say that until they are gone, I will never support Prospect Reef Resort, set foot on that land or patronize any other businesses located there.
In any case, There are other ways of bringing attention to such a medieval and limited program all for the enjoyment of humans and their need to dominate nature. The pens are too small and shallow.

The whole island is not a bird sanctuary, but why not protect the basic places where it is? And while you are at it, protect the beaches from trash, vendors, beach chairs and human activity that can erode the shore, discourage turtles and ruin coral.
