UPDATE: Tropical storm warning lifted for VI

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Department for Disaster Management (DDM) is reporting that tropical storm Rafael is moving further away from the northeast Caribbean and the tropical storm warning for the Virgin Islands has been lifted as a result.

It is also forecast that cloudy to overcast skies with showers and the occasional outbreak of thunderstorms will continue over the Virgin Islands today Sunday October 14, 2012 and tonight.

Some of the showers are expected to be moderate to heavy and could lead to flash flooding over low lying areas. Therefore a flash flood warning remains in effect until noon when a further review of conditions will be made.

Geographic Reference: 100 miles NNW of St. Martin

Movement: N at 14 mph

Max Sustained Winds: 50 mph gusting to 65 mph

Winds: Northwest and west 10 - 16 kts.

Seas: Moderate to rough; swells 6 - 8 ft or 1.8 - 2.5 M. A small craft advisory remains in effect..

Barometric Pressure: Above normal
