UPDATE: Tourist couple in accident sent for overseas treatment
According to information reaching Virgin Islands News Online, the couple, whose names have been given as Michael and Alice Danoff, was transported on Sunday to an overseas hospital for emergency treatment after previously receiving treatment at the local Peebles Hospital.
Reports indicated that the man, who was said to be the driver of the motorcycle at the time of the accident, suffered severe injuries to the leg while the woman suffered lacerations to the head. Both occupants were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, according to Police.
The two had visited the Territory on Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas and were touring the area on a scooter motorcycle [licence MC0577] when the accident occurred on the steep hill.
Reports indicated that the driver lost control of the hill as he was negotiating a turn on the way down when the motorcycle collided with the guard rails and slid for some distance. At least one of the two occupants ended up in a clump of bushes over the guard rail, according to reports.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) related previously that the couple’s injuries did not appear life-threatening.

That road is no place for even some cars, let alone a scooter with two people riding together. I heard that the two people were not "small" and in fact could be considered rather large.
That road is dangerous for most vehicles, even when the people driving know the terrain! A couple of tourists on a 125cc scooter who don't know the terrain are looking for an accident and have NO business being there in the first place!
There should be signs at the bottom and top of this road with a scooter and a line through it indicating that it is NOT SAFE for ANY scooters to use this road! Bloody stupid if you ask me!
I hope the tourists who were injured will fully recover and will have the good sense to thank their lucky stars that they survived. This story could very easily have had a very different ending. That hill is treacherous at best, even when driving the safest of vehicles. It is nothing more than a death trap for scooters!
For God's sake, our government needs to put signs at both the top and bottom of the hill warning scooter riders to find an alternate course. I think they should even make scooter access to that road illegal!
Do not play the blame game. Yes, they were tourists. Yes, the did not know the road. Yes, there should have been warning signs. All of that is true. What is also true is that two people that we love are in serious condition. They are dear friends of ours and they could use our prayers not our blame.
They were still loved by others, and very much so! God determines in situations
Like this, who stays and who don't!
We love love two Mike...hang on and God will see you through it!
Family!
and prayers -
thank you
love you pawpaw and mama alice.
As of recent, they are both still in a Miami hospital. Mike is still unconscious with a severe leg injury. Alice is conscious but is confused with memory loss due to a head trauma and lots of broken bones in her face, even with the helmet.
Wishing them the best,
We love these people, they are the absolute best friends a person could have, loving, caring and giving of selflessly of themselves to others at all times. Please keep them in prayer for complete restoration of their bodies and no further complications. Thank you
Love to you, Mike and Alice..from Naples/Green Bay
