UPDATE: Talent needed for further success of Top 7@7 Awards Show- Lake

President of the Follow The Movement organisation, Craig Lake aka DJ Push Pop, announceed at a press conference today, March, 28, 2013 that the Top 7@7 Awards Show has been cancelled this year. Photo: VINO
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - President of Follow the Movement (FTM) Craig Lake aka DJ Push Pop, in expanding on the reasons for the cancellation of the Top 7@7 Awards Show this year explained, “we were moving into the preparation of the signing of Mr Travis Walters and the signing took place late February so we did not have [time] to prepare for the awards show and we were under a lot of pressure from the guys in the states…”
Lake also stated that the door was now opened within the entertainment world of Tortola and he credited Walters for this.

“The pressure that we have been under from the guys in the [United] States (R.A.Y.D.A.R. Entertainment) is that we need to have talent.”

He felt if record labels were to be continuously brought to the Territory, then the evidence of talent was a prerequisite for them to continue to come. “[They’re] not just coming on a trip,” he said, “because then that trip will soon stop if we don’t have talent.”

The series of proposed elimination shows to be staged later this year, he said would be done in June, September and December which would lead into the next year’s Top 7 of 7 Awards Show.

The FTM Group is also looking for applications from persons between the ages of 16-25 years in genres such as R&B, Gospel and Pop. Applications are available from FTM members, schools as well as churches.

According to the President, the group is also seeking judges from within the music industry, who are in the churches, schools and other such places within the community.

During the months of June and September, when the competition is staged, seven of fourteen persons will move forward to the next round in December where two separate groups are expected to meet in a ‘head-to-head competition’.

R.A.Y.D.A.R. Entertainment is expected to contribute an ‘Image Enhancement’ workshop to the competition to give participants an idea of what is expected of their performances as artistes.

“We are not cutting out the training programme in Atlanta, but if we can get an artist right here, then that’s what we’re looking for,” Lake explained.

Fans of the competition should be allowed to vote by text for their favourite participants at some point during the competition as the organisers explained that they would be partnering with a local communications service provider to facilitate this.

Lake also expressed concern about the prevalence of rappers within the competition and felt there needs to be more singers within the competition.

"This is bigger than Follow The Movement, the signing [of Travie Rozae] that took place in February proves that this is bigger than Follow the Movement... this is now a BVI thing," Lake expressed.

The first elimination show is scheduled for June 15, 2013 after which additional dates will be announced through the media.

Our talents just have to simply take their artistry much, much more serious... thats all. They are of the mindset that they are only competing locally; such is NOT the case. Record labels don't want to come down here and waste their time to see mediocrity. While I agree with exposing, and support local artists, its just that we are very premature from a business standpoint. We need to groom our talents first, making them competitive on a global scale, and then invite these label executives down for a 'real' show. Start first with establishing a Performing Arts School or Center. We HAVE the talent trust me... Case in point, Melanie Amaro.

i think craig and his team FTm need to take a closer look at that boy Aaron da Jedi, i was in attendance by bamboushay and for someone who doesnt like rap music i thought his music is well put together and meaningful that not only kids but Adults can relate to it, he has truely matured as a man infront of our eyes give that man his opportunity.

The BVI has many young talented individuals, most of them starting from the age of 13. I know many young talented singers, maybe they should lower their age limit. Besides, young singers are in high demand these days. I find that the majority of these kids can sing, rap or display more talent than older individuals. The problem is that their talent is being hidden, or they are just afraid to show it, or simply because they think they are too young. In all honesty, I think it is safe to say that you are never too young or too old even, to chase after your dreams or display your talents.
