ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Police have confirmed our first and accurate story that a man had received gunshot injuries in Road Town on the morning of July 16, 2016.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), in a press release last evening, July 16, 2016, said it was shortly after 3:00 A.M. that police received a report of gun shots fired in the area of Violet’s Motel, Road Town.

It further said, police responded and spoke with persons in the area, who confirmed there was a shooting.

“Investigation revealed that a male in his early 20s was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and shot by the attacker who was fully masked. The male, who was admitted to Peebles Hospital, has since been released. No arrest has been made. Investigation into the shooting continues,” the RVIPF stated in the press release.

Virgin Islands News Online understands that the shot man is from Tortola but lived for some time on Anegada. Sources had indicated to this news site that the man was shot in one of his legs and “a bullet grazed his forehead.”

Police is appealing to persons who were in the area at the time of the shooting to contact Chief Inspector Kartick at 368-5425 or the Intelligence Unit at 368-5354, with any information that would progress the investigations.

Gunshots and sirens broke the silence in Road Town, on the main island of Tortola, this morning, July 16, 2016.

According to reports reaching Virgin Islands News Online, shots were fired in the Fishock Road area around 4:00 A.M.

"Lots of shots" were fired, a source told Virgin Islands News Online.

While initial reports reaching this news site stated that the incident took place in the area of the "whorehouse", reliable sources confirmed that it actually took place in the vicintiy of the fire station.

There have been conflicting reports in relation to injuries, however, one source told this news site that "a bullet grazed a man in his forehead and he also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim is said to be from Tortola but lived for some time on Anegada.

Police were on the scene; however, it is not clear if anyone has been arrested.

Media relations officer in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) did not directly address our queries, saying the RVIPF "will send out a press release later in the day."

It was on Wednesday July 13, 2016 that Kelvin Mercer was shot twice while in the Baughers Bay area. Mercer is said to be in stable condition.

@One Eye, S$$t your R:ss about Tortola is just like ST.Thomas. Every time something go down up there, ST.Thomas comes up. At least we don't have scooters up and down in and out of traffic putting people on the road ways in danger. We have our problems with crime here just like everywhere but don't be just putting ST.Thomas on the front burner when S()t goes hay wire in your Country.

The police need to flood these areas and confiscate all guns and jail the criminals, they need to get tough otherwise we are doomed, no tourists, no trust companies, no industry, no charter companies etc, people wont be able to even fish as the fish are all gone.

@Out of control, so, so right. Yep, even the fish in the BVI waters is swimming away to safer waters. They bob their little heads to the surface and say we are out gotta go. Festival is coming, I hope they have good security in place. To much is going on at this time.

@out of control. What help can you offer to the police, for years they have been crying out asking for community help but yet so many of their pleas go unheard and unnoticed. Then when they do their job so many of you criticize them calling them all kinds of names. As I always say, crime in our society is not the police problem alone it's all of us problem and we have to do our part to ensure that we protect these islands from them young tugs, criminals and wouldbe criminals. The police needs our help and we must be prepared to help them instead of rediculing them and bring them down in every sense of the way, yet when we have our problems we want them to be to the forefront

@ Out of Control. You are so right with all the those areas of the Industry to be affected by any inaction against these gun incident, is then you will have crime here. Because you will hardly have work for people to do, so they will turn more to the thieving, robberies and likewise. Lets hope that it don't get to that stage. Let us look at St Croix as an example of such behavior.

Crucian, You have my full support! The big island have issues yes but nothing to do with what Silent One talking about. Mainland USA have their gun issues too...and they have nuff jobs...after all isn't that the land of opportunity? UK have issues, Jamaica have issues, Trinidad have issues. So tell me SILENT ONE...what is your point? What are you really trying to allude to? You must have some sensible contribution to offer...other than talking about Cruz. So before my fellow Crucian undress yo ra$$ indeed you have an opportunity to "fix" your statement... or be true to yourself/your word and be SILENT

Every time we get reports like this, persons are quick to ask where are the police. But I want to know where are the parents. Where is the community. Where are the churches. We have lost this country because the villages that once raised a child are gone. May God have mercy on us.

I am so sick of hearing about no jobs. Stop using that as your excuse. No jobs? But how is it that people are coming here everyday from other Countries and finding employment. It is nothing but laziness. These young people want big money fast. They don't want to sweep floors or clean toilets for a honest dollar because that is beneath them. You have to crawl before you walk. Keep the police out of it. When the police do their job, you hear all kind of S$$t about Harassment.

Don't blame it all on unemployment. We advertised for 4 months and not one person from BVI interested. Don't wanna work in the sun, heat, yard or sleep in crew quarters during charter. Great opportunities out there but you have to show commitment, work hard and the rest will follow.

If you are determine to get a job here in the BVI, you will find it. It may not be what you want, but as long as you are making a honest dollar that is all that matters. Excuse after excuse that is all you hear. Don't go around robbing people for what you want. When you take from people, it don't last. Karma don't need a address or postage stamp to find you.

I don't condone violence, you rob the man, took his property and then you go turn around and shot him? Lunatic, see if you had a honest job, you would have had your own money to buy your weed, Hennessy and maybe a pair of $20.00
    Payless sneakers.

We are past the parent stage. Once again shouldn't we be asking for the Police? If not, what is the role of the Police..??
    • police (17/07/2016, 17:53) Like (8) Dislike (1) Reply
Yes the police know their role and one of their role is to ask you to assist them. Are you prepared and willing to do that. Stop try to make it look like its a police problem because it's not. The police always wish they can catch every criminal and solve every crime, that's their ultimate goal, but with no kind of help from people like you, what do you expect. The police don't work miracles. They need the help of the whole community even the criminals

Every report from labour states the increase of work permit and the population is increasing. Those persobs are not coming here to sit down. I am quite sure its a job they come to do snd they flood moneygram and western union sending money to take care of their loved ones. The work they do is not easy but they know what they want. Stop blaming unemployment and get up and work for your honest bread. Its not what you do is how you do it.
