EAST END/ LONG LOOK – It was no surprise and neither were there any questions asked when contestant #1 Miss Shaemore Smith was declared the winner of the 5th annual Miss Teen Diva Pageant last evening November 24, 2012 at the East End/Long Look Community Centre.

Smith had already taken the lion's share of the prizes, including for Miss Intellect. Her seven individual prizes were for Miss Photogenic, Miss Popularity, Miss Poise, Miss Intellect, Best Creative Wear, Best African Diva Wear and Best Informal Wear.

Miss Deidre Samuel was awarded the prize for Best Party Wear while Miss Chelsea Hodge picked up the prize for Best Creative School Wear.

The performances were satisfying, it appeared to the small crowd in attendance as they seemed to especially enjoy the African Wear Segment where the contestants also did a few ‘African dance moves’. The costumes for that segment were also on the very creative side.

The three contestants competed in seven rounds of competition; Introduction, Diva Party Wear, Creative School Wear, African Diva Wear, Creative Wear, Formal Wear, and Question and Answer.

The out-going queen Miss Sherise Stapleton made her final walk and later sashed and crowned the new queen. Miss Stapleton said the experience of being queen was life-changing for her as she was actively involved in community work including at the Sandy Lane Centre. She vowed to also be available to assist the new queen if needed.

There were also fashion display between segments including by Bayrock Fashion and Head to Toe Fashion. A raffle was also drawn where a lucky ticket holder won a digital camera, compliments of Said Store and another person won a mini DVD player compliments of Radiotron Electronics.

On August 25, 2007 the first annual Miss Teen D.I.V.A. Pageant was successfully launched and has since crowned four Miss Teen Divas, including the 2011 winner, Miss Sherise Stapleton.

According to the Miss Teen Diva Pageant Committee, the main purpose of the pageant is to help build the self-confidence of young girls by assuring them that they can achieve any goal once they set their minds to it. Also, by teaching them how to carry themselves in a positive manner, they can be outstanding role models for other young people.

Smith also took the lion's share of the prizes and it was no surprise when she was eventually declared the winner ahead of two other contestants at the East End/Long Look Community Centre.

There were a million and one events on the night; what did you expect? Congratulations to all the girls for a job well done! I especially enjoyed the African Segment/Attire and you all danced flawlessly. This show is very creative, I will definitely look out for it in the upcoming years.
