ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The likely cause of the fire that destroyed a power boat at the Fort Burt Marina last Friday is still not known, at least to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), as it is still not in possession of a report from the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services Department.

Shortly after 2 A.M. on October 25, 2013 the RVIPF and the VI Fire and Rescue Services Department were reportedly alerted of a fire and on arrival on the scene noticed a 53ft boat on fire at the Fort Burt Marina.

The boat belonged to Power Boat Charter (BVI) owned by Mr Ashburn Harrigan. One other boat was also damaged by the fire.

Contacted last evening October 29, 2013 Acting Information Officer and Police Sergeant of the RVIPF, Mr Carl Mason said the RVIPF is still awaiting a report from the VI Fire and Rescue Services Department.

According to Mr Mason, as at October 28, 2013 the key players in the investigations were not in possession of a report. “We are awaiting the report from the Fire Department before we can give any further information,” he told Virgin Islands News Online.

Sergeant Mason also said the RVIPF Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is working close with the Fire Services Department to move the investigations forward.

Meanwhile, Chief Fire Officer Mr Zebalon McLean was contacted today, October 30, 2013 and he told Virgin Islands News Online that his department is still completing the report but is not treating the matter as an act of arson.
