This is not only a Road Town shame but it is a national embarrassment for the whole country. Residents are warned but tourists, visitors and people who don't be on fB do not know what they're walking in.

Let us put mitigation in place and service the entire system instead od waiting for things to humble one by one and keep putting the place to shame

Look what them greedy politicians we voted for allow this country to come to. All because of greed and self interest, not putting the country first. We are surely becoming a 3rd world country by the day. When will things get better in this place? Totally embarrassing.

I’m amazed that there has not been a cholera outbreak as yet for all the years these people have been pumping sewage in our environment. Our immune systems must be pretty strong by now.

Are we suprised ? We have a premier that is more interested in jumping on a plane and doing vanity projects than concentrating on our failing infrastructure. The whole government has let us down, the country is falling apart bit by bit. Our premier is a nice man but the job is beyond him, he fails to accept responsibility for anything. We need new elections.

Im curious who was the brilliant civil engineer who decided to put the sewage pumping station in the middle of town? Surely there are better places than the heart of our capital city?

The current location of the main pumping station by SOL was there for over 40 years. This station handles flows from Lower Estate, Purcell, Huntumn’s Ghut and the city environs. The main issue is lack of maintenance (proactive) and having trained, competent staff who are sufficiently equipped. Also, sewerage is non-revenue generating and thus a financial burden with zero returns. Businesses in the heart of town should be metered at the very least to offset the costs.

The competent staff cannot maintain it if the money is not approved to purchase what is needed to maintain or rehabilitate the state. Stop blaming the staff.

Fix the sewage outfall problem of Slaney. That sewage pipe just ends right off shore, and the bubbling up of the sewage and the long oily slick it leaves to slowly flow down shore is hideous. That pipe should have been constructed to take the sewage out to the deep part of the channel … but instead it runs right close to the shore where people live, work and people fish… it’s filthy and it’s wrong

@while they’re at it— YES, please extend the sewage outfall pipe. The slick (and filth) it discharges drifts down onto Manuel Reef, Sea Cow Bay and Nanny Cay.

The sea along that coast is too foul to fish or swim in. It’s just wrong!

@ Amazed your talking cholera just wait until the sewage in fat hogs bay comes on line with the type of springs that’s there and the leaking pipes from the manholes the filth is going straight into the water table and some of those manholes are 17feef Down which don’t make any sense but who don’t hear will feel and the springs there are so strong ,But then when you give these people these no bid contracts and all they want is money and they are oils not listen to who knows better this is what will happen

That Station was built over 45 years ago , the capital wasn't developed as It is now , the people who is running bthe department don't know ( B ) from bullsfoot , the sewer system needs up grading for donkey years now , more buildings are hooked up and they bigger and better grinder pumps to handle the AMOUNT of waste that they have to contend with day and night / looks like the government expect the workers to buy the pumps , because they are not adequate enough to handle the job properly , so the workers who nare under paid is at the mercy of the pumps which means double work for them , meanwhile the big boys are sitting in their offices enjoying the luxury of the ( AIR CONDITION) acting like kings and Queens , TRAVELLING ALL over yhe world and the workers cannot even get their ( INCREMENTS ) isn't that wonderful , when you big ~ YO BIG

The (British) Virgin Islands (VI) wastewater management plan is lagging and not First World. It seems to be managing the utility from the seat of its pants instead of from and by a comprehensive national development plan. The Water and Sewage Department rightly or wrongly has/is the dubious distinction of being the worst managed and operated department in the public sector. .The reason(s) for its poor rating falls not only and solely on the shoulders of the department head(s) but also on the ministry, premier, cabinet, HoA, etc. It is shameful, embarrassing and should not be occurring in the 21st Century whereby raw sewage seems to be routinely flowing in and into the streets, unnecessarily exposing residents to unhealthy, hazardous situations.

Consequently, the VI wastewater situation is a 3:00 am fire, a Quadrant 1( Important and Urgent) state, requiring urgent action, including a wastewater master plan, national development plan, which should include primary, secondary, and tertiary wastewater collection, conveyance, treatment, and safely disposal processes. A state-of-the-art well-functioning wastewater utility is vital and critical for the economic, social, etc., growth and development of the VI. It is a factor in the human development index( HDI). Let’s get out of the Less, Lessness funk.
