UPDATE - Really Uptown wins Easter Sunday feature race! [Photoslide Included]
According to the Jockey, Sanchez, Really Uptown “had a lot of horse left in him” after the win.
The Jockey had ridden a perfect race and Robert Brady of L and B added “the race was safe from the time we left the gate. He waited a little for Twisted Dream and then did what the Jockey asked him to do.”
In the first race of the day, a two-horse affair over 6 Furlongs, Jockey David Campbell averted a possible disaster when despite losing one of his stirrups down the back straight was able to stay onboard Power Ten and beat Priority Express to the Post in a time of 1:20 and 3.
“I almost fell off, but regained my balance and held onto the end. It has happened a couple of times before,” he commented. “I was expecting to win and having trained on both horses I knew the outcome.”
Priority Express looked full of running at the end and as Campbell agreed it would do better over longer distances.
Gaffalione, owned by Patsy Lake, made a long awaited come back in the third race, also over 6 Furlongs, but was beaten into second by Walk the Tiger out of St Thomas and ridden by Elmo Barnes. The winning time was 1:21 and 4.
Although denied by the Judges, there were claims made of at least two fouls during the race that caused Gaffalione to finish second. Ray Miestro Junior was third.
Despite some problems at the Gate, Northern Pike won the day’s third race over 7 Furlongs in a time of 1:33 flat.Campbell was again the Jockey and he knew the race was his before the halfway mark. “3 Furlongs out we changed lanes and started to pull ahead,” he said.

Owner Ronnie Hodge was in a good mood after the win. “After the problems at the gate, you have to be satisfied with a win,” he laughed. “The man had the gate tangled and the horse held too tight, you have to let it go in by itself, but you see a victory and you’re happy.”
The final race of the day over 6 ½ Furlongs went to Goodeveningofficer out of St Thomas and owned by A Team Racing Stables.
“It's our first race since coming from Florida; we just wanted a race before the St Thomas Carnival Races. There are some good horses in St Croix and St Thomas, but after today we are ready for any of them,” commented Devon Christopher of the A Team.
The winning time was 1:26 and 3, with Glorious Memory second and Out of Wine third. Tigers Mischief came home fourth.
The next race card following Sunday's would be the Carnival Races in St. Thomas on April 27, 2012 and the Easter Sunday races were also being seen as a warm up for that event.
