UPDATE: Queen Elizabeth II is dead
Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after concerns grew about her health earlier on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.
With her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
"The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
All the Queen's children travelled to Balmoral, near Aberdeen, after doctors placed the Queen under medical supervision.
Her grandson, Prince William, is also there, with his brother, Prince Harry, on his way.

Queen Elizabeth II under medical supervision
Queen Elizabeth II is under medical supervision at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, a statement from Buckingham Palace says.
Her doctors are concerned for her health, following further evaluation this morning, it says
But the palace adds the 96-year-old monarch "remains comfortable."
According to the BBC, Prince Charles, Camilla and Princess Anne are at Balmoral and Prince William is travelling there.
Prince Harry and Meghan are also making their way to Scotland, as are Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.
Prime Minister Mary Elizabeth Truss aka 'Liz' says "the whole country will be deeply concerned by the news."
The Archbishop of Canterbury said he was sending his prayers and the first ministers of Scotland and Wales joined well-wishers in sending their thoughts.
Fake news of Queen's death
Meanwhile, there were reports of the Queen’s passing but were dubbed to be unfounded and from a fake BBC news account.
Queen Elizabeth has increasingly handed over duties to Charles and other members of the royal family in recent months as she recovered from a bout of COVID-19, the Associated Press reported.

Notice the past governor hinted -no spoke of at corruption at the highest levels but yet did nothing except lay veiled threats for the Premier to stop acting up. Meaning they were probably in on the whole thing about his alleged bad behavior and likely willing to let it continue but he refused to be humble to them and they had to show him the premier who was in charge SO you really have to ask yourself what the navy ship did with the coke they said was too much to destroy in the territory.
RIP to a fellow human being, but as to disgusting behavior you will have to forgive it because we really do not know the scope and impact of unjust invasions, decisions that continually marginalize people who are not like them, and the innocent lives lost in between.
As a both a very rich & private person its hard to point to one good thing that went above & beyond that was done for those less fortunate without an ulterior motive. Ending slavery was bound to happen one way or another and the least that could be done morally.
