WICKAMS CAY I, Tortola, VI – As first and accurately reported by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) on a robbery today, Saturday, July 1, 2023, in the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park, police are now on the hunt for the two men who carried out the daring daylight robbery at House of Luxury this afternoon.

Police public relations in an update this afternnon said the police are now seeking witnesses where two persons dressed in all-white were seen walking towards House of Luxury and shortly after running towards the parking lot discharging a firearm in the air.

Video of the incident showed persons screaming in terror as gunshots rang out in the Park, with two men dressed in all-white running. The Police however said no injuries were reported in the incident.

“Several persons were in or around the Pier Park at the time of the incident. Those who witnessed the robbery are asked to provide any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem,” the release added.

CBR TPP store 'House of Luxury' reportedly robbed by armed gunmen

WICKAMS CAY I, Tortola, VI – [Post Time: 14:32pm] Information coming into Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) is that around 2:00 PM, today, July 1, 2023, one of the many stores at the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park (CBR TPP) was reportedly robbed.

Sources have indicated that the store is ‘House of Luxury’ at the Pier Park and it is being alleged that the robbery was carried out by two men carrying high-powered rifles.

Up to publication time, Police and other officials were still on the scene investigating the matter.

It is our understanding that the Pier Park is now closed to vehicular traffic until further notice.

Video seen by our newsroom showed men dressed in white running amidst the sound of screams of gunshots ringing out at Pier Park.

VINO also understands that there was another reported shooting earlier today in East End, however, it remains unclear if that shooting was carried out by the same assailants.

Our News Centre will bring more details as the story develops.

Keep lying on the politicians and wrongfully blaming them for everything while ignoring the governor and commissioner of police and some of these irresponsible parents. The commissioner of police has more officers than ever before, yet you cannot find one on the streets. Let him use the plenty white undercover UK officers he has here roaming around unnoticed looking news only on certain people while getting paid hefty salaries to do nothing but create mischief and lies just to say they are working.

Glad no one got hurt. Insurance will take care House of Luxury. But if things not put in place, its going be someone else soon... Where were TPP super Cop who sees everything. How come he didn't see this? .TPP needs to get serious with the protection of their clients and their tenants. I don't know for the BVI but in some countries they can be sued for failing to provide adeguate security... Then again. The Police needs to step up, get out on the street and protect., everybody got some kind of nonsense excuse for not doing their Jobs.. High day. This is total disrespect and disregards for Security, customers the authorities.... Is it bravery, stupidity, or well planned? .This may trigger a pattern of Copy Cats. We have to find these Robbers quickly and send a strong message to others "Don't think of trying it".

Even if they are found quickly, the punishment won’t be a deterrent as we have not updated penalties to match the kinds of crimes that we are seeing today. The approach to crime needs to be holistic. The prison needs to be seen as a real prison rather than a country club. We also need well trained and experienced lawyers to prosecute these criminals. There needs to be a no nonsense approach when it comes to crime. Until then, good luck to us.
          • @@Insurance (03/07/2023, 08:45) Like (0) Dislike (1) Reply
Problem is what punishment deter? The death penalty has proven itself not to be much of a deterrent, neither have long prison terms. Maybe hard labor 6 days a week, 8 hours a day. Sharia law calls for cutting off the right hand of a convicted thief. No matter what punishment, it will take tax dolllars to pay for it.

As to the holistic suggestion, it needs to start from the top. It’s not too difficult for anyone reading BVIs online media to discern that corruption exists at the highest level. That needs to be stamped out. Few are ever brought to account, notwithstanding tens of millions of wasted/missing funds. It’s not too difficult to figure out education is not a prioprity here. It should be. What programs do we provide youth during summers? They could be learnimng how to swim, operate a boat safely, or they could be learning vocational trades by helping to rebuild schools or fix hoime for the elderly or doing summer review course. Endless possibilities but here there are zero . We leave youth to their own devices, literally. There’s plenty of studies now that show that this can have a negative impact It’s also pretty obvious that there is little or no plan for the future for the Territory or it’s youth. Lamentably, there appears to be no vision for the future of the Territory.

As to prosecution, the foundation rests on good police work. Do we have that here?

But I will say this where are the police patrolling these are high foot traffic areas we need the police to patrol and stop driving up and down burning gas doing nothing, I drove through town this morning around 10 no police officers to be seen like town patrolling it self commissioner of police do your job we tired hearing stories from you and the Governor if you can't do it let the Port have their own police officers with firearms step out of the way.

You are so correct. The Governor & UK Commissioner of police are a complete failure. They are more interested in how the people of the BVI can afford what they have. They have no interest in these ongoing bold face crimes. Their mission is specific, so the people of the BVI are left to fend for themselves.

Now you will see police presence through town. Them have real work to do now. Once these guys get away on this one it’s open season. Looks very well planned. The Governor shut down all the little ways the government gave out contracts to clean drains and cut bush and other jobs to keep money in people’s pockets. Now to do a 300.00 job everyone has to be able to bid on it. Not saying what happened is right, but we can not ignore that side of the equation when making decisions to keep money from flowing through the territory. When one of the Governor’s friend is affected, only then will they understand. But it’s a script that keeps colonies colonized so his friend will just be a pawn in the name of colonization.

Secondly they had to enter the area either driving or riding

The whole public needs to assist with this one. If we don't get these punk many will think it's okay to do such.

And when we do get them hit them 25 years plus give them all long time to think of what they did.

I do not feel sorry for people who go and commit crime then looking people to find remorse for them.

No I do not. They was not thinking about the public when life was good and getting monies or drugs from these criminals

Lock them they don't even desire bail

I do not know why the one SCB get bail snd I'm sure the lady from the bank out on bail too. But if it was a man they wouldn't of see the light.

But I can’t blame anybody because the people have no trust in the RVIPF. We have seen them sell the lives of witnesses to the highest bidders. They claim to not be able to solve crimes without the community’s help, but how can we help them when we know they are dirty and cannot be trusted?? I don’t know what can be done for us to have a better working relationship. Damned if we do and damned if we don’t. Maybe it’s also time for the RVIPF to have an office in Pier Park so they can be the eyes behind the cameras. The security officers at the park are really parking attendants, and even with that they are afraid to tell people they are parked illegally.

  • History (01/07/2023, 20:00) Like (10) Dislike (1) Reply
When I moved here what happened today started happening on a regular basis in St Croix. It within 6 months closed down the tourism industry in St Croix. Cruise ships stopped going, planes stopped going and it sent it in to the big decline that it’s 20 years later not really moved on from.
The people here in formal and illegal authority realized that open crime was not good for the BVI and the little flare up that happened here was stopped. Anything that happened was by and large between the players in the illegal shipping industry and did not interfere with Jo Public. Everywhere was safe.
Today’s shannagins has the danger, if allowed to continue to damage the entire economy of the BVI. Those who were babies and children 20 years ago need to understand that no matter how desperate, there are something’s that you don’t do because it will affect your friends and families long term future negatively for relatively small gain in the short term. Mainstream crime is not cool and is a threat to the economic wellbeing of everyone in this small society and damages most those that already have little. I hope that again those in the top of their respective industries will use their influence and understand that everyone looses when today’s actions are allowed to happen.

Nevertheless, the culprits can be narrowed down to one and only one ethnicity and heritage. Loathsome reptilian cursed earthly forever needy dark thankless creatures.

This is not going to impress the cruise ship companies, probably will STOP coming here, lots of other safe places to visit.
Thousands of locals/residents rely on the ships for income, we need to band together and stop this madness. Worst of all lots of local kids at the park on weekends, thank God noone was shot.

I may be wrong but the police needs to blow up the video or the two still photo that is circle in yellow and they might be able to see who they are. That was a brazen move. I would agree the robbers is going to be at porker run probably wearing some of the same jewelry they stole.

If police presence were felt on the street and around businesses, such crimes would not happen. Two hundred plus police and none seen on the street or around businesses. Do not wait for a crime then ask for help. We are paying them to be out there to protect us.we. need to know our police men and women. That can only happen if they are on the beet.

Be careful of where we are heading. Remember years back St. Croix was big in the tourism industry & due to the high rate in crime they lost it......to this day they have not recovered. Tola is a small place & note the crime rate; our main industry is tourism.... do the Maths.
Yes every Country has crime but it is the ratio.......

It sounds like it. That happened 41 years ago. It was not just a hold up. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fountain_Valley_massacre. The equivalent act here would be shoting up a bunch of tourist in Cane Garden Bay while shouting the same epiphets as one of the perpetrators did at the golf course.
That said, armed robbery anywhere is never going to boost tourism.
