UPDATE: No internet; Staff without water & electricity forced BVITB closure- Source
According to the source, the office had no internet and some staff also had challenges caused by being without power and water.
“We closed because we lost internet connection from the service provider and [the] majority of the staff is still without water and electricity. Nothing to do with flooding,” the source told our News Centre.
There are reports; however, that the BVITB&FC was indeed affected by flooding in the Cocoplum Building, although not the BVITB&FC office itself, and that there was need for much cleanup.
The BVITBFC is located on the second floor of Cocoplum Building, J.R. O’Neal Drive, in Port Purcell.

Flooding of new BVITB headquarters forced closure & work from home!
After moving to its new headquarters in Port Purcell less than a month ago, the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission (BVITB&FC) was forced to close today August 15, 2024, due to the first floor of its new office building flooding out.
Persons familiar with the matter told our News Centre that some officers and a cleaning company spent the day cleaning as the office was not conducive for workers. The new office headquarters is located in the Cocoplum Building, J R O’Neal Drive at Port Purcell, on Tortola.
Photos and videos hit social media of the flooding conditions of the new compound over at Port Purcell.
The flooding was caused by Tropical Storm Ernesto, which brought heavy rain and winds across the Virgin Islands on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Officials at the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission are tight-lipped on the cause of the work from home/work remotely; however, we were told that Director Clive L. McCoy is overseas.
Meanwhile, the BVITB&FC Headquarters is slated to open tomorrow, August 16, 2024, according to a notice from the BVI Tourist Board this afternoon.
TS Ernesto caused many damages
The storm caused much damage to roads, homes, schools, churches, businesses and hillside erosion. Many big trees have fallen, blocking roads and driveways and some have fallen on cars and homes.
Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) said the damage assessment to come up with a cost has begun.
The Civil Registry and Passport Office also remained closed today due to the effects of Ernesto. Some statutory agencies are reportedly still without electricity.
