ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A night that was supposed to be a competition between the two top Fungi bands in Tortola, resulted in both bands coming together playing and singing in each other’s band and having a great time.

At the Bat Cave last evening June 9, 2012, patrons witnessed the unity and companionship displayed by both the Lashing Dogs and the Razor Blades at an event that was dubbed ‘Fungi Splash’.

Speaking to Kayron Todman, Manager of the Razor Blades he told this news site that there was no competition between the Razor Blades and Lashing Dogs. He added that both bands are like family. “We are from one village, we are one family and we look up to the Lashing Dogs.”

Todman said that there should be no comparison between the bands, because although both bands are good, Lashing Dogs still has an advantage over them, that advantage being the experience they have gained in Fungi music after 24 years of playing in the Virgin Islands (VI).

“It is not ok to compare Lashing Dogs with Razor Blades because they have been around longer and are more popular amongst the people of the VI.”

Manager of Lashing Dogs Ariel Smith said that the competition between them and the younger band was all promoted by management of the event. He added that it would be difficult competing, seeing that both bands always helped out each other in times of need.

The event saw persons from the Razor Blades band performing with the Lashings Dogs.

At the event that was poorly supported by the public, both bands still gave it their all and played as if the crowd was super thick.

Smith stated that he was disappointed by the turnout of the event. He added that although disappointed, he expected little people to show up, knowing that there were other functions on Tortola.

Both bands played exceptionally well, where they did renditions composed from many different genre backgrounds and transformed them into the up-beat fungi rhythm.

Speaking to the Owner of Bat Cave Keisha Pickering, she said other than the small turn out, her aim of the event was succeeded. “I am happy that the local whites came out and enjoyed themselves and mingled with the local blacks.”

Stanley from Stanley and the 10 Sleepless Nights was unable to make it to the event due to plane issues in St. Croix.

I agreed, with the games that people was looking forward to hindered the even. Ms Pickering don't let this deter you from having another one. The area is a good place to keep a jam...lots of space. Ms pickering keep an oldies dance for the older folks and we will surely support you.

Lashing Dogs is definitely not the same without Aubrey. The Dog Himself needs to be back in the band.

I expected such a poor turn-out, the people of the BVI are not patriotic at all. They have adapted everyone's culture and forgot about their own. If these two same bands played in the USVI the place would have been jam packed. Shame on all BVIslanders.

Maybe in hindsight, it was not the best night to do it with the USA basket ball game play off and the big boxing fight and not a government paid weekend...people getting ready to go hold on to them $$$$$ to last until the 15th

It's barbaric that everytime 2 bands get together the promoters try to make it a competetion, and they don't realize that that will only kill the bands musically & cause themt o decline rather than focusing on music they'll be focusing on competing so I glad they were smarter than that
