UPDATE: Mr. Ali M. Tarabay to be buried Sunday 9th August 2015
Tarabay passed away last night August 7, 2015 following a period of illness, his son Mohamad Ali Tarabay confirmed exclusively to this news site earlier today August 8, 2015.
“We would like to announce that the funeral service and burial of the late Mr. Ali Tarabay will be held at the Sea Cow's Bay Public Cemetery at 3:00pm on Sunday 9th of August 2015. Afterwards there will be a tribute to him at the Davis Funeral Home between 4:00pm and 6:00pm. Refreshments will be provided and all are invited,” said the family in a funeral announcement this evening.
Ali Mohamad Tarabay is one of the first Arabs to settle in the Virgin Islands and has been lauded for his contribution to the economy of the territory through his business.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – One of the first Middle Eastern persons to settle in the Virgin Islands, Ali Mohamad Tarabay, passed away last night August 7, 2015 following a bout of illness.
Speaking exclusively to our newsroom today August 8, 2015, one of the sons of Ali M. Tarabay, Mohamad Ali Tarabay confirmed the passing of the businessman, whose recently remodelled store, Reality, is located on Water Front Drive, just next to Nagico Insurances' office.
“He had an illness for a while…he had prostate issues for a while now and he basically succumbed to it, after a long while,” said Mohamad Ali Tarabay. Ali Mohamad Tarabay was 85 years old, had three sons Mohamad Ali Tarabay, Abraham Tarabay and Khaled Tarabay and five grandchildren.
Premier Dr the Honourable D. Orlando Smith told this news site that Mr Tarabay was a friend not only to him but also to the community.
“Mr Ali [Tarabay] was a very good friend of mine. He was an established leader of the Arab community of the BVI. He was a fair businessman who treated everybody well," said Premier Smith.
"He came in and established himself in the community and became a part of the community. He was well loved by the entire community. The whole of the BVI mourns his passing and I want to give my deepest condolences to his family at this time,” said Dr Smith.
