PURCELL ESTATE, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has confirmed the arrest and subsequent charging of a 28-year-old man following an intelligence-led, stop-and-check operation, on Friday, August 23, 2024, which was part of a concerted effort to address recent incidents of public disorder.

In a statement today, August 26, 2024, the police said the man, Romario Morgan, of Chalwell Estate, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug and granted bail in the sum of $5,000.

Two others arrested in separate operation

Two additional males were arrested during continued patrols and checks on Saturday, August 24, after attempting to evade police in the Purcell Estate area. They were interviewed and processed, then placed on conditional bail. The pair are required to return to the Road Town Police Station on September 25, 2024.

The statement quotes Acting Commissioner Jacqueline E. Vanterpool who stated, “We will not tolerate any attempts to disrupt the peace and security of our communities. The RVIPF will persist in its efforts to apprehend those who engage in criminal behaviour and bring them to justice."

The RVIPF urges the public to continue supporting these efforts by reporting any suspicious activities or information that may assist in ongoing investigations. Community cooperation remains a critical component in the fight against crime.

One adult male has been arrested in connection and investigation had begun concerning some of the other items seized during the operation.

Public encouraged to come forward with information

Acting Police Commissioner Jacqueline E. Vanterpool said providing reassurance to the public, especially the communities directly affected by the recent public disorder incidents, was one of the operation’s objectives.

“The police are committed to investigating and apprehending criminal offenders who continue the flout the law and create mayhem in society,” she said.

So the ones in Purcell were on bail with strict nightly curfew conditions and they were caught by police at night which means they broke their curfew. How do they get bail again?

    Dear People of the BVI

The noise from Gun Shots and Bullets have become a normal entertainment in the Purcell and Free Bottom community.

This Gun Thing being going on for decades now. I am a resident of this community. I have made several complaint
to past Representatives, to Police Officers and Government Officials but it has continued.

The last set of Gun Shots and Bullets I heard was very close to where I live. It sound like one of those High Powered Middle East weapons like what Hamas have. I was expecting to find bullets in my yard.

This happen on August 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. - in Free Bottom area - in broad day light.

I hope the recent arrest that was carried out by the Police will help solve some of this problem.

Pressuring the people isnt going to work. If you get rid of one, two, three guns and seven, eight, nine more enter its as if a fire man allowing fire to go out of control and then getting paid to out the fire and puff out his/her chest. The pressure used to be way more intense and yet here we are not a thing has changed in 20 years. I am not saying they arent trying but what they are doing is spinning around in a circle and feeling righteous. Then the officers will say, "you try doing this dangerous job" OK but the job wouldnt be so dangerous if the border was protected & the guns didnt enter in the first place.

What call has multiple AK-47 have doing in this small territory, that is a major slip up by whoever is responsible. Its like the trump shooter getting in, cheering that he got shot, and acting like no one is responsible for that mistake of him getting in position in the first place with a big ax rifle.

but in that case the secret service leader had to resign 10 days later.

If you want to send a message that you are tough on crime stop granting bail. Everyone know it will take you 5 years to prosecute the case and DPP will lose the evidence or fumble the case so there’s little incentive for any of this to stop. I support the police efforts but it’s like trying to plug leaks in a damn with bubble gum.
