ESHS girls top Territory @ Sec. School exams

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn today June 13, 2014 announced that two girls from the Elmore Stoutt High School topped the Territory in the Secondary School Leaving Examinations.

He made the announcement at the Seventh Sitting of the Third Session of the Second House of Assembly today.

“Madame Speaker, I would like to congratulate this year’s top two students who are both from the Elmore Stoutt High School.

"At this time Madame Speaker, I will withhold the names as I would hate to steal the joy of those students by announcing their achievements before they are aware,” said Hon Walwyn.

“What I will disclose though, Madame Speaker is that they are both female students with GPAs of 4.167 and 4.166 respectively,” he said.

“Madame Speaker, I am also proud to inform this Honourable House that there are two male students in the Territory’s Top Ten: one from the Elmore Stoutt High Schools and the other from the BVI Seventh-day Adventist School. Their GPAs are 3.922 and 3.912 respectively,” the Minister announced.

The full results are expected to be released today and we will bring you further updates when available.

if eshs can perform that well and they could produce those kind of results....y do the need an 'additional year'...
p.s keep in mind people....myron has not yet specified whats in this extra year...we have to do something because this is hurting our kids..

Congratulations to all who will be graduating. It must be heart breaking for those who are not able to this year. I hope they will not be discouraged and will continue to strive for success. I wonder what the passes would be like if so many students didn't have to do supplementary exams. I personally feel that it needs to be cut out and the additional year needs to be reviewed. If it will include introductory college classes to help students do well in college, then great. If it will include some preparation for the world of work, wonderful. But I feel for too long the education of our youth has been watered down. Some students no longer see the importance of being focused on their studies. A lot of that is because they know they can form the fool in fourth and fifth, then do supplementary. With the additional year...now is when we will see more foolishness. We are losing our youth and we, adults, share in that responsibility.
