VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Our newsroom can now confirm that Lyra George has been appointed the new Chairwoman of the Virgin Gorda Festival Committee.

The appointment was reportedly made by Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL), the Minister for Culture, in consultation with Mr Trefor A. Grant, the Chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee.

It is unclear why a local committee was not put in place and a vote taken by the committee to see who the people on Virgin Gorda wanted.

Ms George, a Virgin Gordian, previously served as the Treasurer of the Virgin Gorda (VG) Festival Committee.

She replaces outgoing Chairwoman Ms Sasha D.A. Flax.

The VG Easter Festival is scheduled to take place from March 31, 2018 to April 2, 2018.

Sasha D.A. Flax Out! as VG Easter Festival Committee Chair

The Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee is seeking a new Chairperson as Ms Sasha D.A. Flax is no longer at the helm.

Word reaching our newsroom was that Mr Trefor A. Grant, who is the chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee, would replace Ms Flax as Chairperson of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee; however, Mr Grant refuted those reports.

"That is not correct. I am the Chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee. There should be an official word coming out from the Ministry [of Education and Culture] regarding festival," Mr Grant told our newsroom this morning, February 8, 2018.

The Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee oversees the activities of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee.

Meanwhile, Ms Flax also confirmed to our newsroom she is no longer the chairperson of the VG body.

"It's confiirmed. My 4-year term ended in December. I am not sure who the next chair is, I have only heard rumours."

Ms Flax noted that the entire Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee dissolved in December.

The children of God will stand up and bombard this festival. Mark my word. Two monster hurricanes, first in history, people lost their lives, their homes, their properties and ya'll on here bout festival? watch and see, No festival in VG!
Take our money yes, the tax payers money and help build back homes for the stressed out victims who were displaced because of the tragedy. People of these Virgin Islands need a rude awakening but not to worry we are only about 4 months away from hurricane season. Fire, Fire, Fire on all who have a part in this nonsense. Premier, Minster of Education, WE saw you standing there in the church service last week with your hands held high mocking God but remember God is time and only time will tell. Fire.

These are the things that make me hate Christians and Christianity. Who are you to be calling down evil upon your neighbors? You need more prayer your own damn self for your wicked mean spirited attitude towards others! These "pastors" in these new so-called religions got everybody stupidy. Got you studying about festival while they suck out your money with tithing. Why don't you call on your pastor and so-called church to build back people homes? Place got more church than wha rum-shop yet the pastor always looking more $$$. You don't see real ministers and priests of real established churches spouting such nonsense. They leave that to the Church of the Ignorant.

The BVI is a hot mess. It seems there is no organizational stability in the VI; dysfunction rules. Day in and day out, this is out and that is in. How can things improve if staff isn’t around long enough to effect change and improve organizational effectiveness. There is no consistency or continuity. Constantly rotating staff is ineffective, inefficient and costly. It stagnates organizational effectiveness. It prevents people from getting engaged, for there is a short life span in what they are doing. Micromanagement contributes to inefficiency. It is a symptom of insecurity. Staff needs to be given wings and let them fly. Staff success is leaders success. Nepotism, cronyism, political patronage, tribal politics and cannabilism and elitism is constraining the VI growth and development. No dissing of Ms. George. We need to wish her well and give her our support.

Who ever you all are making comments, lets stop being negative. You have persons who have been pushing for VG Festival and you have some against. Anegada was the same scenario. You had the Lobster festival and what happen now? Anegada is on the top list of places to go now. We know VG don't have much accommodations left, but most of the places were high end accommodations so it still does not make much difference. The only difference is the people who are here working for the companies are staying in some of the accommodations, but hopefully they would be gone by then. Look at the bright side of things , monies will be coming into the island , so lets stop complaining and help to put things together before festival time. There is a lot that we all can do and help others as well. Tomorrow was not promised to us, so live for today. The people who will be running the festival I have no doubt that they will do a great job. This is the time we should showcase our culture and utilize what we have in the BVI. Congratulations to the new committee.
