UPDATE: Lyra George In! as New VG Festival Committee Chair
The appointment was reportedly made by Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL), the Minister for Culture, in consultation with Mr Trefor A. Grant, the Chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee.
It is unclear why a local committee was not put in place and a vote taken by the committee to see who the people on Virgin Gorda wanted.
Ms George, a Virgin Gordian, previously served as the Treasurer of the Virgin Gorda (VG) Festival Committee.
She replaces outgoing Chairwoman Ms Sasha D.A. Flax.
The VG Easter Festival is scheduled to take place from March 31, 2018 to April 2, 2018.

Sasha D.A. Flax Out! as VG Easter Festival Committee Chair
The Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee is seeking a new Chairperson as Ms Sasha D.A. Flax is no longer at the helm.
Word reaching our newsroom was that Mr Trefor A. Grant, who is the chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee, would replace Ms Flax as Chairperson of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee; however, Mr Grant refuted those reports.
"That is not correct. I am the Chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee. There should be an official word coming out from the Ministry [of Education and Culture] regarding festival," Mr Grant told our newsroom this morning, February 8, 2018.
The Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee oversees the activities of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee.
Meanwhile, Ms Flax also confirmed to our newsroom she is no longer the chairperson of the VG body.
"It's confiirmed. My 4-year term ended in December. I am not sure who the next chair is, I have only heard rumours."
Ms Flax noted that the entire Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee dissolved in December.

Take our money yes, the tax payers money and help build back homes for the stressed out victims who were displaced because of the tragedy. People of these Virgin Islands need a rude awakening but not to worry we are only about 4 months away from hurricane season. Fire, Fire, Fire on all who have a part in this nonsense. Premier, Minster of Education, WE saw you standing there in the church service last week with your hands held high mocking God but remember God is time and only time will tell. Fire.
