Male cashier @ Peebles Hospital allegedly assaults woman

A woman is said to be suffering from pains about her body after she allegedly took a physical whooping from a male cashier at Peebles Hospital yesterday, November 4, 2016.

Learning of the ‎incident last night from a person close to the victim, it was said that the woman was on a long wait at the Pharmacy for her prescribed medication. "She got weary of the long wait and didn't stay quiet and that is when he took the law into his hands and decided that she was a child and he was her father and so he could whoop her but he got another thing coming," related the relative.

Several staff members of Peebles Hospital confirmed the incident and while it's said he is likely to be fired, the relative said the family intends to take the matter to court.

"He is not her father, she is a woman and no child, he on his job and if he was offended by something she said or did he was to report her and not be a coward hitting on a woman. Some of these men so out of place," added the irate relative.

Chairman of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) Bishop John I. Cline told this news site he heard about an incident but "I do not have the details so I am not in a position to comment."

Meanwhile, BVIHSA CEO, Mrs Paula G. Chester-Cumberbatch, confirmed there was an incident and that the victim was treated and sent away. "The matter is being fully investigated. The critical thing here is the safety of patients in terms of the service that we provide," Mrs Cumberbatch told Virgin Islands News Online.

Police did not immediately respond to our queries on the alleged incident.

Sorry to say but BVIHSA rather hire foreigners than their own BVIslanders and if a BVIslander do get a job there the foreigners who have more ranks and the high positions treat the locals so bad or drive them away to leave the job, so bad things like this will FOREVER happen at BVIHSA ..... ayo go fix that, look work for ayo to do now HAHAHA

@ HAPPY FACE Please tell me what your comment has to do with some ignorant cashier deciding he has the right to become violent with someone?
It's a mentality like yours that keeps our country down. Go take some time and improve your thoughts.

@Happy Face you dont even know what you speaking about, for your information most of the managerial positions held in the BVIHSA are held by BVILanders, research before you air your bad mindedness. Which workers you know that left the job because they are treated so bad? I say again research before you air your mouth, y'all run with too much hear say and media trash that y'all can think for yourselves. This place would not get better not because of what you have stated but of bitter people like you that dont look to improve the system and want change, all this is to you is a joke.

i would say he was wrong for hitting a woman, but some times the customers have no patience so i can understand the frustration. but to hit a woman is no no!! this shows that we have no respect for each other! and that we need more customer service training in the BVI, trust me we do!!!

Too much useless security. If someone is behaving rude at the cashier Window the security desk right there. They should be the one to escort the lady outside until she kool down. Trust me those security are useless.. As a matter a fact that should be the policy all rude behavior customers be escorted outside by security to kool down.. Re enter when they are ready to conduct themselves properly. A second escort out band u for the day.

He should be fired for being unprofessional. Even if the lady was ranting about the long wait to get her meds it was not his place to put his hands on her. If that was my mother or any female member of my family I would have stomped a mud hole in his A::. No respect.

So let me get this straight. The woman is cussing bad words and being disruptive. This man comes from behind his protected partition, puts his hand on this woman instead of calling security to calm her down? He is sooooooooo fired.

The typical jamdown feel them bad..... He did not touch her first ...he came out told her to stop disrespecting him and wait her turn and she took it upon herself and bounce on him first..... You think I am an individual going to take that. If the Hospital wasn't so poorly staffed, a security officer would have been around EVERY cashier station to calm down rude and obnoxious clients like her ....but NO...they were not in that location....I DONT CONDONE WRONG but I'm sure tired of you all coming here thinking you got all the facts and feel for her only.... She need to learn some manners and know her place in other people's country ....she COULD NOT DO WHAT SHE DID IN JAMAICA.... He's wrong for leaving his station and she's double wrong for putting her hands on him first. We all DONT KNOW what we would have done if we were in either of their positions ..BUT one thing I know, you bounce me first it not going down like I enjoyed it.

he couls have called security to have an unruly customer removed or ignore her. ther's no two ways about it-he was dead wrong and should be fired and even jailed immediately.

Didn't they say the customer is always right? Nuf she Nuf, I don't condone violence however, even if she was wrong to pounce first, he should have kept his cool, and call security. If he did she would be the one charged and he would not be in trouble.

If he had remained at his station (in his cage) she could not have pounced him. He is double wrong.

This is a state owned facility.there are some persons who do not have respect for these state owned buildings.some of the staff in the security, cashiers, client services they take a lot of abuse from the general public on any given day.especially from these foreign immigrants.and it's real overbearing.and something needs to be done about it.people can come into our hospital tell u about your mother threaten to shoot you and nothing ever done to assist the staff.its real sad.but it's ok for foreign persons to be disrespectful all the time and no one in management ever looks out for the staff.

I wasn't there and don't know the story. Hope the cameras will clear up the truth. However, if she hit him first, he had a right to defend himself. Women these days like to be wrong and strong, and the police would take their side easily. Anybody hit me, whether on the job, in church or on the street, I throwing back blows in their skin, man or woman.

Now if she did not hit him first, then he was wrong. Even if somebody tell you something that you don't like, even if its as far as cussing your mudda, then just hold your cool and let them rant. Don't hit nobody.

The truth will be revealed in time

I don't know what went down or who hit who first, but I know the lady and she's like 4 feet tall and 120 pounds. Maybe she was being dismissed like a twelve year old. Anyway I wasn't there, don't know what happened.
