UPDATE: July trial for ‘Super Cop’

The trial of Police Constable Glenroy Callwood, 45, is expected to begin on July 19, 2013. He stands accused of grabbing a man’s private parts. Callwood pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $25, 000 with one signed surety by Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards. Photo: VINO/File
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Interdicted Police Officer, Glenroy Callwood aka Super Cop is to return to the Magistrate’s Court on July 19, 2013 when his trial is expected to begin.

Callwood, 45, of Horse Path was charged with indecent assault when he appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on June 7, 2013.

The defendant denied the incident and tendered a not guilty plea when the charge was read. He is represented by attorney-at-law Stephen Daniels.

The Crown expressed that its file was ready and disclosure of all documents had been made to the defendant’s attorney.

Callwood allegedly extended his arm and grabbed the Virtual Complainant’s (VC) 'private parts' and squeezed it while the VC was standing and speaking with a team of workers at the Police maintenance workshop in Road Town.

He was granted $25,000 bail and instructed to have no contact with the VC or any other witnesses in the matter.

According to his attorney, Callwood is responsible for approximately 90 percent of the Police force’s traffic prosecutions and it was partly because of his inflexible and unorthodox approach that he was being charged with the offence.

UPDATE: Callwood’s inflexible approach caused prosecution - Lawyer

- Officer accused of grabbing man's 'private parts'; Granted $25k bail

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Attorney Stephen Daniels stopped just short of describing his client, Glenroy ‘Super Cop’ Callwood’s matter before the Magistrate’s Court today, June 7, 2013 as malicious prosecution.

Daniels described Callwood’s impartiality as so stellar, that even the Pope or Queen would be charged if they had committed an infraction of the law.

He stated that Callwood’s appearance before the Court today was only due to the fact he had an inflexible and unorthodox approach to his work as a Police officer.

“This is the most slanderous and wicked allegation I have ever seen,” Daniels told the Court when he rose to represent his client. He proposed that Callwood be sent on his own recognisance since he had appeared before the Court on the basis of a summons and was a fixture in Court when it came to traffic prosecutions in the Territory.

According to Daniels, Callwood was responsible for at least 90 percent of the traffic prosecutions in the Territory and had received a commendation as recently as March, 2013 for the stellar service he provided to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.

Daniels alleged that the VC was handed traffic tickets by the defendant on two separate occasions and suggested this was the catalyst of the action that led to Callwood being before the Court.

He stated though, that his client was ready and prepared to fully ventilate the matter before the Court today in order for a speedy disposal of the matter. “We could even go up to 6:30 P.M. like the other day, your Worship,” Daniels said.

Despite this stellar record, however, the attorney said nothing came of the information that was allegedly sent to the Commissioner of Police indicating the alleged ill intent associated with his appearance before the Court today.

According to the allegations read by Senior Crown Counsel Sarah Benjamin, the Virtual Complainant (VC) was standing and speaking to a team of workers at a Police maintenance workshop. While the defendant was passing, he allegedly extended his hand and grabbed the VC’s private parts and squeezed it.

As a result of this, Benjamin continued, the VC became angry and shocked at the defendant’s actions and asked why he did that. He then allegedly told the VC that he would do it again.

Investigations were carried out on April 9, 2013 and during this time, the defendant was met at the Road Town Police Station and approached by an Inspector Sergeant and informed of the report made against him and cautioned.

He allegedly replied, “I don’t know what [the VC] is talking about.” During an interview, he allegedly stated, “You will have to talk to my lawyer, that is the most I have to say.”

Callwood, 45, was informed he would be prosecuted for the offence and cautioned before allegedly responding, “I don’t have anything to say.”

As part of his bail conditions today, Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards instructed that Callwood have no contact with or offer any harassing treatment to the VC or any of the witnesses involved in the matter.

Callwood, who has since been interdicted from duty following the accusation, will return to Court on June 21, 2013 for a report on the matter.

UPDATE: 'Super cop' in court for allegedly grabbing man’s private parts!

Known as ‘Super cop’ by many, Police Constable Glenroy Callwood, 45, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today, June 7, 2013 accused of grabbing a man’s private parts.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge of indecent assault and was granted bail in the sum of $25, 000 with one signed surety by Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards.

The court was told that Callwood, a police constable for some 15 years, allegedly committed the offence sometime between November 1 and December 31, 2012.

According to Crown Prosecutor Sarah Benjamin, the Virtual Complaint (VC) alleged that he was speaking to a team of workers at the Police Maintenance Workshop at Road Town when the defendant approached, grabbed his private parts and squeezed it.

The VC allegedly became angry and asked the defendant why he did such a thing. It was alleged that Mr Callwood then told the VC that he would do it again.

The VC then reported the alleged incident to police and following an investigation, Mr Callwood was charged with indecent assault. He has since been interdicted from duty pending the outcome of the court proceedings.

Mr Callwood, who is being represented by popular attorney Mr Stephen Daniels, will have to return to court on June 21, 2013.

Don't be a fool. That is how it is put. It doesn't mean that the VC doesn't know exactly when it happened! With all those witnesses there, if Callwood really did it, you can be sure that most if not all of them will be giving evidence.

This is B.S. I would not be surprised if SupaCop ticketed the complaint previously, hence the reason why an official complaint was made to the police as pay back. This matter is laughable. I am sure SupaCop did what he did as a joke though these are the types of jokes that lacks humour.

I guess what I am trying to say is that this matter could have been resolved. What the police could have considered doing was meeting with the complainant and SupaCop and resolve the matter in a civilized way. After all they both work for the department. This matter should have been dealt with internally. I am sure that SupaCop's lawyer would do his job. In doing so I would not be surprsie if it turns out that the complainant was ticketed by SupaCop which may have led to the complainant reporting this matter as a way of getting back at SupaCop "pay back".

SupaCop is one of the few police officers that actually earn their salary. Good luck SupaCop. It would be a crying shame if this good police officer end up loosing his job over nonsense.

I have watched this man in action for many years. Sometimes he's actions are warranted and other times it could be considered abuse of power. First, he needs sensitivity training. I was at a walk where he wanted to explain to the participants the safe route etc. He rolls up, sounds the alarm, gets on the pa system said says, "you people must listen to me..." I could have died, there was the Governor and a few notable ' high society' people standing there with their mouths gapping open. He meant well, but he's deliver needs work.

Then, there was the incident where he saw a 'high ranking' political figure driving and talking on his cell phone. It was like watching a scene from a move. He immediately set out in a foot chase through traffic and low and behold, he was able to stop the minister and with much zeal reprimanded him for driving and talking on the phone. I LOL so hard that day...the man does not discriminate. Alas, he was quickly removed from duty on Tortola and promptly posted in Anegada.

I've got tons of stories, but I'm having a hard time typing and laughing. Super Cop ask yourself this question; is it the love of the job or the love of the power associated with the job? Your answer can make a world of difference on how you go forward as an officer of law.

If the Queen of England did happen to be visiting Tortola and this, uh, policeman tried to

She have a large kind of boom boom, so I just squeezed it,” was the reason Kervin Pierre gave to the court for slapping a woman on her buttocks.
The Morne Jaune man now has six months in jail to think about his action.
Pierre appeared in court on Tuesday on a charge of assault and battery on a female, to which he pleaded guilty.
According to court reports the incident occurred on June 9, 2013 near J. Astaphan and Co. in Roseau.t is reported that the woman was walking in the area at about 8:45 am when Pierre approached her, slapped her on her buttocks and walked away.
The woman was not pleased and she immediately lodged a report at the Roseau Police Station.
Pierre was confronted by the police near Convent Prep and arrested.
When asked for an explanation for his actions by the police he replied, “a little touch wii…that is not even rape.”
Asked to mitigate on his own behalf, since he was unrepresented, Pierre told the court that the perfume of the woman was “a distraction to him.”
He also said he only ‘squeezed’ the woman’s buttocks since it was kind of large. He was jailed for 6 months on the charge of assault and received no separate penalty on the charge of battery.
