UPDATE – Horse trainer jailed for 18 months in EE burglaries
Orville Christopher, a Sea Cows Bay resident, was implicated in two burglaries that occurred in Greenland on March 12 and 27, 2012, according to Crown Counsel Jude Hanley.
On the first count of burglary, he was sentenced to 18 months, and 14 months on the second count of burglary. The sentences are to run concurrently.
In handing down her sentence, Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens chided the 29 year-old for the crimes, calling them serious and pointed to the fact that he lived in Sea Cows Bay and committed the crimes in East End.
“Burglary is prevalent in the BVI…you are not a teenager, you’re a grown man who have to face the consequences.”
Crown Counsel Hanley on April 13, 2012 while reeling out the facts had told the court that the first victim had secured her Greenland residence at around 12:15 a.m. on March 12, 2012, however, around 5:30 a.m., Christopher allegedly picked the lock of the kitchen door. He went into the bedroom of the VC’s son and took up a cell phone worth $35; six Xbox 360 games and placed them into a brown bag. The defendant then proceeded to take up some coins on a dresser and it was that sound that woke up the son, who raised the alarm.
It was then Christopher allegedly ran out of the son’s room, left the bag with the game in the kitchen and left the residence.
Meanwhile, in the other burglary committed at another residence in Greenland, the VC woke up on the morning of March 28, 2012 and she discovered that a Blackberry Curve worth $249; a yellow and black Samsung cell phone worth $300 and a silver and black Samsung worth $100, were missing. It is alleged that the defendant entered her home sometime on March 27, 2012 and gained entry through the porch door.
Christopher was arrested on April 8, 2012 after he was found with the yellow and black phone, and while in custody, he voluntarily allowed to be fingerprinted which matched the prints left at the March 12, 2012 burglary scene.
Furthermore, the defendant explained the phone was given to him by “Glen”. According to him, he and Glenroy Davis went to the home of the second VC with masks and gloves, but insisted it was Glenroy who allegedly entered the building, and when Davis returned he was given the phone.
Crown Counsel Hanley said the other two phones were never recovered.
