ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Coordinator of the ever-popular Easter Hoop basketball camp, Mr Steve Parillon has grabbed the opportunity afforded him to impact young people of the Territory with skills and basic fundamentals of the sports of Basketball.

Mr Parillon told this news site that he is very happy that the facility has opened up its availability to allow him to do the thing he loves the best and to continue to make his mark in moulding the young minds of the Territory.

Initially the camp was from March 31, to today April 4, 2014. “The facility is available to me for another week so I have taken the opportunity to run with it for another week. There are many kids who didn’t get a chance to come this week so this is their opportunity to get into the programme with the added week,” Mr Parillon said.

Those interested can get registered today between the hours of 9:00 am – 3:00pm or on Monday April 7, 2014 at 8:30 am. “The kids who are in the programme this week will get a double treat as they would continue in the programme for the added week,” he told this news site.

Mr Parillon continues to encourage parents to show their support for their children as they participate in the programme. The programme this year targets children ages 6-13 years old and the camp is in its 4th successful year.

‘Hoop it Up’ b/ball Easter camp ready for 2014 go

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With experience, skills and ‘know how’, founder of the Hoop it Up foundation Mr. Steve E. Parillon is upbeat and ready for the staging of his club’s 4th Annual basketball youth camp. However this year, it is for children ages 6 to 13 years old.

Once teachers and students across the Territory see Mr Parillon entering the schools they know one thing is in the air, Basketball; and for the Easter season of 2014 the reaction of excitement and great expectation among the young ones are no less.

Speaking with Virgin Islands News Online Mr Parillon was no less excited about the camp than his target group. He said for the fourth edition he has decided to focus his energies on dealing with children in the said age range as he has realized that the older ones are being extensively engaged in other similar camps.

“Age 6 to 13 are the babies who need to have maximum attention given to them in terms of the basic fundamentals of the sports of Basketball,” stated Mr Parillon adding that while he loves working with the older youths as well he feels compelled to pay more attention on those at the very foundation stage of their lives.

“This deals with both boys and girls in that age range. There are some of them that have some knowledge which we intend to build on and the others needing to know, needing to get into the sport we will be laying the foundation skills development.”

The camp gets in full swing from March 31, 2014 and concludes on April 4, 2014 at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex and at this stage the organizers are focusing of registration which requires a small fee of $40. The registration drive will be on March 24 from 10:00 am to noon. Each registered child will also get a T-Shirt. There will also be a late registration on the first day of the camp. Forms are also available at Easy Pay and RiteWay.

“While there are those kids I know would come on their own I want to encourage parents to make just a little time to come along with their kids, see what they want to get involved in, show them that you are in full support of something that they have a passion for,” impressed Mr Parillon.

He said ‘hats off’ to some parents who would always show up to support their kids as it means a lot and would go a far way with them.

This year’s camp is said to be a timely one as many of the targeted participants are likely to be part of the DD Basketball District King League.

Mr Parillon also said that he is currently working towards recommencing the other usual ‘school’s out’ basketball camps which he had not done in a while as he was otherwise engaged.
