UPDATE: Homicide victim identified as Kmoi Walters

HUNTUMS GHUT, Tortola, VI- Now that the next of kin has been advised of the sad tragedy, our new centre has learned the victim of the fatal shooting is Kmoi Walters. The shooting happened early this morning Monday July 6, 2026 in Huntums Ghut, on the main island of Tortola.

There are mixed information as to what happened as some claimed it was a chain robbery gone bad. However Police in a press statement said that they are still investigating the matter and will bring more details.

The deceased, who is said to be about 26 years old, succumbed to his injuries and died at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital, in the capital city, Road Town.

The Staff and Management of Virgin Islands News Online offer our sincere condolences to Mr Walters' immediate family and other loved ones.

This marks the first homicide in the Virgin Islands for 2026.

Man dies after being shot in Huntums Ghut

HUNTUMS GHUT, Tortola, VI- A man has died after sustaining gunshot injuries in Huntums Ghut early this morning, Monday, July 6, 2026.

According to reports reaching our News Centre, the victim was transported to Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital for treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force has confirmed it is investigating a "homicide following a shooting incident that occurred in the Huntums Ghut area during the early hours of today 6th July."

Police said investigations are ongoing, and that further information will be provided at an appropriate time.

Anyone with information that can assist officers with investigations are asked to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9512 or anonymously through crime stoppers at 800-8477.

    Why is it that a person/people cannot go anywhere nowadays without some form of violence breaking out in this place. No amount of anger/hate should result in the taking of a life! This is such a sad state of affairs; my condolences to all mourning this loss.

    These and others and others criminal activities will continue, and increase, as are im others part of this world until Godly moral improve in the British Virgin Islands in all areas of necessity, believe it or not.
    However I hope that this latest gun related death incident will quickly be fully investigated by the RVIPF, and justice be served accordingly. In addition I hope that the family members, relatives and friends of the deceased man will soon be heal from this latest ongoing, but fastly rising none unwanted reality.

    I think it’s about time to bring over the Jamaican Police Taskforce level the playing field.

    It has worked in other nearby countries.
