ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The House of Assembly Sitting scheduled for today, August 26, 2019 has been rescheduled to September 2, 2019, according to information reaching our newsroom.

The 6th Sitting of the First Session of the Fourth House of Assembly was initially scheduled to resume on Thursday, August 8, 2019; however, Public Relations Officer from the House of Assembly, Mr Linton V. Leonard had announced via press release on August 6, 2019 that the Sitting was rescheduled to August 26, 2019.

However, this morning Speaker of the House, Hon Julian Willock told our news desk- in an invited comment- that the House of Assembly has been postponed because of the “weather that everyone needs to monitor.”

Hon Willock also said the postponement came after consultation with the Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) and Leader of the Opposition, Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8).

The HoA last met on Friday, August 2, 2019.

DDM advises to monitor Tropical Storm Dorian

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has been urging residents of the Virgin Islands to continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Dorian and be prepared to take action if any watches or warnings are issued.

The DMM, in a 5:00 am update, said on the forecast track, the center of Dorian is expected to be near the Windward Islands late today and tonight and move into the eastern Caribbean Sea on Tuesday.

It said maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian could be near hurricane strength on Tuesday and Wednesday while it is over the eastern Caribbean Sea.

According to the DDM, the [British] Virgin Islands could begin experiencing wind gusts as early as Tuesday evening.

“Rain bands and Squall like conditions from Dorian is expected however, this information is subject to change as the system gets closer,” the DDM stated.

HoA reconvenes Monday August 26, 2019

Legislators may have more time to ‘jump up’ for the Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival since there will be no sitting of the House of Assembly (HoA) until Monday August 26, 2019.

The 6th Sitting of the First Session of the Fourth House of Assembly was initially scheduled to resume on Thursday, August 8, 2019; however, Public Relations Officer from the House of Assembly, Mr Linton V. Leonard announced via press release on August 6, 2019 that the Sitting has been rescheduled.

“On behalf of the Speaker, Hon Julian Willock and the Members of the House of Assembly I wish to announce that the 6th Sitting of the House of Assembly will resume on Monday the 26th of August rather than on Thursday the 8th of August, as previously announced. Please stay tuned for further information,” Mr Leonard stated.

The HoA last met on Friday, August 2, 2019.

      @ Just saying, it’s not about little rain ass, it’s about a system that can potentially be a hurricane, so everyone except you have to monitor closely. If you read the story well it says after consultations with Premier and Leader of the Opposition, where did it say Willock our off the HOA.
