BALSAM GHUT, Tortola, VI- One of the victims in the stabbing incident at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) last evening, May 30, 2021, has died.

Virgin Islands News Online can confirm the deceased is Jamaica national with Belonger status, Nickail Chambers.

Police have confirmed the stabbing incident resulted in a fatality.

“Police can confirm that one man is dead following an incident at HM Prison. Details surrounding the incident are unclear at this point, therefore no other information is available at this time.”

Chambers, who allegedly succumbed last night, was on July 12, 2019, sentenced in the High Court to spend 10 years in prison for possession of a firearm and attempted murder.

Meanwhile, our newsroom was informed by HMP sources that the other stabbing victim, Deshawn Stoutt is hospitalised at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital.

Word just reaching our newsroom from sources at Her Majesty's Prison in Balsam Ghut, on the main island of Tortola, is that at least two persons have been taken to Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital following a stabbing incident at the prison.

Our newsroom was also told that at least one person is in serious condition following the incident this evening, May 30, 2021.

The injured are said to be Nickail Chambers and Deshawn Stoutt.

Unconfirmed reports are that one of the inmates has since succumbed to their injuries.

It is unclear what led to the attack on the inmates and who is the perpetrator.

Ranks of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) have allegedly been called in.

Our newsroom is working on more details to this story.

    The prison has been out of control for over a year, corrupt policies, empowering the crooked staff, putting civilians in charge of prisoners, putting female concubines in positions of authority, failing to address ongoing violence, bullying, extortion, threats to staff and prisoners, Mr. Guy Hill your hands are full, may God be with you.........concerned BVI lander.

    Send those people who are violent and have had multiple repeat charges for serious crimes, to the United Kingdom or some other Caribbean country. Just like the police force has it own corrupt set of ppl, the prison has its own. Flush them out (officers) and send them out(prisoners).

    The prison system is a joke like everything else. Going to Her Majesties Palace is not a deterrent, got more privileges up there vs being on the outside. From the time that W$I pic come out I would have turned up there inside out. Man up there wearing thousand and thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, designer clothes, $100 + slippers & $1,500 shoes.     what do you mean with belonger status? if i am not mistaken, this man did school here and everything. he was here from an early age. he got 11 yrs for loaded gun and attempted murder but others who are from here who was found with loaded gun on bail and still walking the streets. others who strengthened to kill police are not in prison. People found with cocaine are out on the streets on bail. How can you fix the crime problem when the law only goes to people who not from here? The law needs to be the same across the land, from here or not from here, the law needs to be uphold them you should at least see a decline.

    BVI doesn’t have a prison, it’s a hotels. Prisoners have too much freedom, therefore no remorse for actions that put them there. Someone asked how they got weapons, same way how they have cell phones, gold chains and weed. Those criminals living their best life with 3 square meals and snacks (outside food). We need a prison reform.
